It's a great milestone, though it's a little unfortunate for Lou and Mickey that their injuries kept their hits so limited.

It was asked on Around The Horn when he tied the record if this makes him the greatest Yankee of all time. To which I laughed for about 20 mins. God that's such a terrible show.

Why the love for the Twinkies?

Joe Mauer is the best player in the AL right now by a ludicrous margin.

Yup the man is sick. Even if you put him at an offensively bloated position like first base he's still the best hitter in the AL, then accounting for him as a catcher, just wow.

The Tigers lost their 4th game in a row last night. Angry  It is a good thing that neither the Twinkies nor the Pale Hose have much interest in trying to catch them.

Not only that, but by all accounts one of the finer defensive catchers in the league too.  He was arguably the best player in the AL last year, and this year he added some more pop to his bat to put him easily over the top.  It's kinda scary that so many writers seem to be supporting Teix for MVP; if Mauer doesn't win it, it will be one of the biggest snubs ever.

Fun fact:
Number of batting titles won by Joe Mauer: 2 (and on pace for another this year)
Number of batting titles won by AL catchers not named Joe Mauer: 0

But any Cardinal fan would say that he's better than Yadier Molina but he is no Albert Pujols.

That's because MVP's are given out to arbitrarily without regards to anything besides offensive numbers and often arcane ones like RBI and Runs scored rather than OPS or something. Also winning teams of course get favored it's a shame.

The same with Cy Young voting. If you look at past winners the number of wins plays a huge roll in who wins the Cy Young. Grienke isn't even a serious contender just because his team can't score runs.

The Tigers finally snapped their losing streak with a 7 to 2 win over the Blue Jays.  With Minnesota beating Oakland 8 - 0 and Chicago in a battle with the Angels, the Tigers definitely needed it.  Tomorrow night is Verlander -vs- Halladay, so the odds are probably in the Jays favor.

Grienke's got to get it.  Nobody has THAT many more wins than him, and his ERA is like a half run lower than anyone else's.

I think that Sabathia will win it because (a) he is a former winner and (b) he is a Yankee.

What the hell has happened to the D-Rays? 11 losses in a row. Is this the same team that went to the WS last year?

Aubrey Huff decides to contribute to the cause with a 3-run pinch hit home run in the 9th inning to tie the game 5 to 5, and the Tigers score a run on an error and 2 walks in the 10th inning to beat the Jays 6 to 5.  A huge win for the Tigers. Clap

Dodgers 1 behind the Bucs right now.  3-2.  I really like this pitcher Pitt is using  Duke.  Holding the Dodgers to three hits in 7 innings so far. Can't believe how young all these guys on Pitt are.  With St Louis losing an Colorado getting punked again by the Giants I hope the Dodgers pull this out.
Edit: Andre Eihier's 6th walk off homer in the 13th  Dodgers 5 Pirates 4.
Edit Edit
Actually was 6 walk off hit with four being HRs.

Seriously, what the hell do the Royals have against the Tigers?  First in 2006, then again last year, now again this year.

Unlike the Pirates they are playing the spoiler role. The Buccos just rolled over for the Dodgers.

^ I actually watched all three games and i don't think they rolled over but they are inexperienced and it showed.  The Dodgers didn't blow out any of the games. Pirates led in game 2 and game 3.  Would have won game two wasting a great pitching performance by Duke. Bullpen is not very good and let both games slip away.  Monday was the only one that Dodgers won start to finish.
They still have 4 in Pitt next week.

Looks like the Cubbies are rolling over and playing dead to complete the Cardinals season.

Well if the Dodgers don't wrap up home field in the NL they have no one to blame but themselves.  They have the next 9 games against each of the last place teams in the NL.  It is on the road but that shouldn't matter.
