It has been done before (this topic). In brief, my personal first encounter was The Dreaming. Moved back to Never. Liked the first two, but they didn't wow o wow o wow me. Everything after I really liked, even the often dissed Red Shoes. Hounds weighed heavy on me. I was very pleased with Aerial. Wouldn't mind seeing another one.

I like The Kick inside the most, particularly for The Man with the CHild in his Eyes (used to love the music video), but the second album does have one of my favourites with "Wow". That song really did "Wow" me when I heard it for the first time -- it brings back very fond memories of a great time in my life. I was lucky enough to find the cassette of The Sensual World in a bargain bin (maybe for two bucks) not that long after it came out, which has some exc3ellent music "Rocket's Tail" and "The Fog" being particular favourites. Maybe since the first CD I heard of hers was Kate Bush The Whole Story, I've long been more a fan of individual songs of hers than particular albums, even though albums such as Aerial hang together.

About time The Red Shoes had some support, any CD with Moments of Pleasure on it can't be that bad.

I have been a big Kate fan since the late Seventies - and, being a woman myself, it certainly wasn't because of her looks. However, I would not call her a 'proggier Madonna' - this does both her music and her voice a huge disservice. Kate is a completely different personality than Madonna, and she is definitely much more talented as a singer (even though her voice may be an acquired taste). As regards her albums, even though Hounds of Love is much more cohesive as an effort, my favourite from hers is probably The Dreaming - "Pull Out the Pin" has some of the most haunting lyrics I have heard, and the music is not bad either. The Red Shoes, on the other hand, was a disappointment, even though (as Alan pointed out) there are some good songs to be found there too.

Kate is one of my favorite artists, particularly her first three albums. They form a trilogy of emotional exploration via highly creative style that is second to none. Her next two (Dreaming and Hounds) were more adventurous and the latter more acclaimed, but they never topped the first 3 in my book. Sensual was mediocre, Red Shoes a return to form. Great stuff.

Eh, I've probably posted this before, but The Red Shoes was a big a hit with me as everything before the first two albums, not that I don't like them. I think to really appreciate The Red Shoes, you had to seen The Line, The Cross, and The Curve. I went to see that at a theater in the mall (Phipps Plaza) with my last girlfriend before my wife. The power went off on the way in, or maybe we were already seated, so we had to evacuate. The power came back on as we were leaving. It went back on and what do you know? When we got back in to see it, the power goes off in an early scene of the movie.

Although it pains me to criticise Kate Bush, I have to say that the film of "The Line, The Cross and The Curve" is a pile of poo and Kate's not too fond of it herself.

So I'm guessing we won't be seeing it on DVD any time soon. Wish they'd put out her video collection on DVD.

Her voice gets on my nerves, personally.
But maybe someday I will give her a listen and figure out what all the fuss is about, y'know? Never say 'never' with me. I tend to almost always enjoy an artist if I give them enough chances.
Still, I think if we're gonna talk about female vocalists, Tori Amos is infinitely better than Miss Bush, but I guess that's a matter of opinion.

Have not listened to her for a while - well since overdosing on "Aerial". I have all her albums apart from "This Woman's Work". Her strongest album imo is "The Dreaming" followed by "Aerial" and "The Hounds of Love". Really though, I like everything she has done, and I am hoping for more releases in the not too distant future.
