We are spittin' blood down here ( aka Ponting) not only are we being thrashed in the cricket the bloody Kiwis with that All Blacks team knocked us over again in the rugby. I don't blame them wanting to beat us Aussies. It was the Chapell brothers who bowled that wretched underarm grubber. Relations between the 2 countries has never been the same since but you can't blame us all over here
What a stunning debut by Trott and Broad cleaned us up like bowling pins. Here I go again, spewin' I did not back my prediction. I am not a regular gambler but a few times a year I will have a flutter

Ponting is definitely spitting blood after losing a tooth. It was a great performance today by England. Trott and Swann battered excellently (as did Strauss). Good stuff! I just hope we can make early inroads before lunch tomorrow.

Well its over there ain't no more and Congratulations to England. You all did not seem to optimistic at the begining of the series but thanks to Collingwood in the first test things improved for the English team.
One comment is concerning Michael Hussey,I thought it was too little ,too late. He has been out of form for 2 years. Granted it was pure grit he displayed but I think it might have been a bit better to have a flash of form earlier in the series.

Thanks Matthew! Yes it was strange for Hussey of all people to get a big 100. But he should have done it in the first innings then you might have done it.
Still, it took a great throw by Freddy to get us the win (at least winning today)
back on this thread in 18 months time I guess.

We'll lose in Australia.
We'll also lose to South Africa.
We'll also lose the One Day matches coming up.

In my last post of a number of days ago and prior to the start of the test , I commented that another first innings display ' like a couple of tests ago would just about see England home ' . I , of course , was not really expecting these words to be prophetic . 'Runs on the board' and 'occupation of the crease' were my other comments . We did neither satisfactorily and England managed to do both and they deserved to win.
The surprise of the series was young Broad . With his bowling, he started off modestly but showed real talent and smarts by best adapting to the variable conditions . This showed maturity beyond his years . With his batting, he stands upright and is very correct with an excellent defence . His batting took the Aussies by surprise and he deserves all the congratulations and accolades he is sure to receive . He'll be a great cricketer for England and his intelligence and discretion displayed during media interviews could even see him as future leadership material imo. Very impressive .
Congratulations also to Swann for his batting as well as his canny bowling and to Trott, who proved to be the difference in the second innings. Great selections by the England ' powers that be '.
Very disappointed but we were just too inconsistent in just about all departments of the game . We were outplayed at all the crucial times . What more can we say but congrats to all you proud English folk out there.

Optimism James. I think we will lose the One Dayers we could not even qualify for the 20/20 at the last series they had.

When did we last win the Ashes in Australia? And we're not good at the one day game really... but we'll see. As for the forthcoming South Africa tour... it could be interesting. Also, they're talking about Broad being a future all rounder... well didn't Swann also bat very well? He's an alternative spin bowler/batsman all rounder. Someone on Test Match Special even said he was England's most natural stroke maker.

The knives are out down here, we are number 4 now in the world ratings and there was mention that no captain had lost 2 Ashes series in something like 80 years They are even after the Selectors blood. I think there will be changes with them.
We have not taken it hard. Still in shock.
Broad is a good bowler but agree I would not rate him as an all-rounder but he can bat.
That was a great innings from Swan unfortunately for us but we bowled the balls for him to hit
It is a shame about Ponting with the captaincy but no matter how good a captain if you do not have the cattle you can't win. He still to me is one of the best batsmen I have seen in modern cricket and he is just as good in the rest of his game. Glen McGrath and Shane Warnes do not come along to often

But we're also missing the likes of Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, Andrew Symonds and even Stuart McGill as a back up spinner. The first 3 could single-handedly take an attack apart .
We miss Symond's spark in the field and I wasn't enamoured with Haddin's keeping. Other than Katich's effort , where were the game-turning run outs we've been used to seeing . Instead, Freddy and co produced them in a situation where there was no urgency for the Aussies to make quick runs. When I heard we lost 2 crucial wickets to run outs I just couldn't believe it.
Some may suggest that a few too many of the Aussies have one eye on money making endorsements , the media , becoming personalities on TV ads and where they should have their next tattoo implanted instead of focusing just on the cricket . Until they can become more consistent in their overall performance , without being preoccupied with distractions , they may continue to struggle. The talent is definitely there.
If blame is being attributed, you just can't single out Ponting or the selectors . It takes a number of factors in combination for a promising team to lose a series, esp on an Ashes tour of England where you can hardly call the environment and conditions hostile. The Aussies are simply not heads and shoulders above the rest anymore . The 'one percenters' can turn a game now, as the reality is, Australian cricket has come back to the field imo.

Who on earth said that. Was it Chris Broad?
That honour goes to Strauss in the current squad with Cook not far behind.

But Australia had better stats than us... yet we won two matches. So Australia weren't that bad and England weren't that good.
It was a bit of a sloppy series at times.
