Ok, as best as I can do, in no particular order, I'm listing some of my favorite non-prog artist:
DJ Sasha / Sasha and John Digweed - Electronica Love and Rockets - New Wave Sting - Pop Depeche Mode - New Wave Juno Reactor - Electronica Train - Rock and Roll Tones on Tail - New Wave The Dave Matthew's Band - "Alternative" Stone Temple Pilots - Grunge Ralph Vaughn Williams - Classical
Ok, so it's ten.

I'm too lazy to list 5. But - 1st would be definitely Dead Can Dance.
Simply one of the most unique musical collectives that existed. Very minimalistic music though - total opposite of prog, but magical none the less.

Too many to choose from but off the top of my head:
- The Cure
- The Stranglers
- Depeche Mode
- Souxie and The Banshees
- Dead Can Dance
- Alice In Chains
- The Smashing Pumpkins ( up until recently)
- Simple Minds
- Talking Heads
- Transglobal Underground (with Natacha Atlas)
I know the criteria was 5 - just too hard not to include more.
