As you may remember, I went to England with The College of St Thomas More, which is a Great Books Catholic school in Fort Worth (surrounded, incidentally, by Texas Christian University because they had more money to buy up land) with a whopping 55 students. I was not aware it was so small when I attended, but that's fine because I had a great time there. However, when I returned, the head of the college was apparently so impressed with me (although he was probably also pressured by his neice, who is my piano teacher) that he emailed me a few days ago to say that he wanted to give me a full scholarship for a year to go there this fall. Now while it's flattering to be considered for such a thing, I don't know if I can go to a school with only 55 people. And furthermore, I don't know that I've stopped being a f**king failure enough to go to school that is more real than community college. But on the other hand, going back to William and Mary is not ideal because I would have my year of failure dragging down my GPA, which begs the question, whether doing well at a school nobody cares about is better than being mediocre at a school people do care about. If you read all that give your opinion and I will do whatever I want anyway!

And David, what Hemmingway did you read in school? Because The Snows of Kilimanjaro really raised my opinion of him.

Well, Snows was one of the few things I've ever read by him that I could stand/was acceptable to me for early 20th century writing. His short stories are fine, but it's mostly his novels and some of the World War II memoirs he's written where he either goes "Look at how depressing I am! I'm such a pitiful human being!" (A Farewell to Arms) or "I don't need to talk about the soldiers, since no one cares about them! I'm going to talk about how sorry I feel for the French Resistence and the city of Paris, since that's what people will want to read about!"

I probably shouldn't say he's one of the worst authors ever. Maybe one of my least favorite of the 20th century. I guess I have a hard time connecting with his memoirs and novels is all.

Also, as for the schooling thing...

Do whatever you think is best for you and that first "real" job.

There's advantages to both.

A small school may mean you get more help when it's needed.
A big school means you may disappear amongst all the others and therefore not get the help you may require.

If you do well at a small school, you will be the envy of all the others... which may actually be a bad thing.

I guess it depends on whether you're an outgoing person who likes to get to know people or whether you're a reclusive person who will knuckle down and do your work.

A Scholarship sounds like a great idea on paper but only you can decide if it's worth doing.  You have to do what you feel is right.

And you're not average or mediocre.  The only thing you're not good at is spelling Hemingway (only one M). Wink

There are at least 4 beers in the fridge, I brought one of them from a music festival in July, and the other three were bought by my mom out of no reason two Saturdays ago.

I am far from drinking beer casually. LOL

I am so lucky that I have a big mouth and my wisdom teeth came in without a problem.  Unfortunately, they are the only wisdom that I have retained.

LOL at Scott. And sorry about your stomach being messed up, Pekka. Hopefully that clears up soon.

I finally got something from The Sound of Animals Fighting because I'd seen them at the top of the list of artists recommended to me by last.fm. They're labeled as experimental rock and appear to be an "indie supergroup" of some kind. Although so far in this album, it's felt more like experimental and less like rock, so I don't know if I'm enjoying this or not, but it is certainly intriguing.

Note to Alex: If you have not heard the jazz rock/fusion band Tunnels, you must check them out.

They've got some free downloads of some of their songs on their label's website.  http://www.buckyballmusic.com/artists/tunnels/index.html

I've got huge gaps between my teeth and one missing altogether so it would've been no problem if the others had just cuddled closer together... Given the weirdness of my mouth I wasn't surprised to hear that the root of my wisdom tooth is so crooked that it has to be removed surgically, and there's a three month queue for the operation. I'm hoping it won't get inflamed again while waiting for it.

Thank you for the sympathy David Smile

Thanks for the thoughts guys, I was pretty sure that is what you would say but I thought I should ask the internet anyway. ;-)

Three months!? THAT IS COMMUNIST MEDICINE! I'm surprised you're not in front of a death panel!

My lower wisdom teeth didn't even exist, so they could just yank the top ones out and it wasn't a big deal. And because it was only local anesthetic I got high off the gas!

Henry, we're not the Internet.

We're people who post on a forum on the Internet.  We're not the authority on everything. Wink
