Regarding drwlf's review, none of the criticism was particularly novel (I've heard these remarks before and have made my peace with them- never was at war with any of them, truth be told).  Aside from a few clear factual errors (I, for example, do not use a drum machine), criticizing other reviewers, and questioning how "inbred" Prog Archives is (I'm not altogether sure what that means- what exactly are we "breeding?"), I thought the review itself was decentish.  Wink  If you hates it, you hates it.

I guess I was put off due to the poor production quality, or the sequencing of the drum tracks. Wonder if there's something wrong with my copy of the album, or why on earth does that fill on 0.55 of "A Pear In The Field" really scratch my ear, or so to speak. It does sound awfully unearthly to me. I guess I do need to add an edit for the review or something, to clear the factual error(s) out ;)

And as you can read from the review, I guess I just do hate the album. Simple as that. Yes, I did have my preconceptions of the album - without the glowing reviews or the placing of the album in the 2009: Top Albums-list, I would have not gotten ahold of the album, would I?

I just felt that I had to have my say of the album, as it really did put me off - even more and more so, after every single spin. I grew to dislike it, at least for now. Who knows will my opinion change in the future. Also I did feel like raising the questions I posed, and judging from the conversation risen here - they seem well-placed. (And no, I won't be answering my own questions ;)

And what comes to new artists in general. There's good debut albums, and then there's bad ones. Sometimes the debut albums are even some sort of "Best Of"s, as the artist or the group has polished the songs, which were selected from years and years work of actual songwriting. A debut album, or an album in general doesn't dictate how I personally enjoy the next, or the previous album either. Who knows what kind of an impact will Epignosis' future albums will have on my, or somebody elses life. Never say never, eh?

And productionwise, no, I wouldn't be saying that I dislike poor production standards - vice versa. I actually do enjoy some lo fi black metal, I'd rate Nursery Cryme as my favorite Genesis album due to the warm, fuzzy inexorable overall feeling of the album, I'd rather play Wobblers actual demos, than the re-recorded material released this year - any day, they just have _that_ special feeling to them.

But no, "Still the Waters" didn't do it for me. Exactly the opposite, hence the review, with the critique.

Ahem ... No one likes my idea?

This doesn't depend on us, we need the albums of 40 PA members to be worth 5 stars.

Iván

The PA top 40 isn't based on ratings, it's based on visits to that person's page.

I was really hoping to get some feedback on my idea, where did everybody go?.

My son bangs on these toy drums in the bathtub, it's actually quite RIO....just need to set up some recording gear in there.

Somehow I found myself chuckling to this one. I might be an evil person.

Yep, that's how it works. (the top of the page, not the side of the page that lists the top 100 rated albums)

So what do you think Ivan, is my idea a good idea or a bad idea?

Can we go to our own pages to boost the numbers?  And what page is needed to go to???  Is it an official website?    Couldn't we just freeze the function once we've got all the 40 member based bands into the list and keep it in a temporal stasis (is that a Doctor Who term???  I feel like I've seen Romana mention it...)

Don't suggest him reviewing his own albums..

"This album is MASTERPIECE! It really is. I first heard Phidaux on... "

;)

Heh - he could probably cut and paste the review I made for USAprogressivemusic to achieve just that *chuckles*

Oh, but I do.  I have several accounts.  That's the useful thing about IP address proxies.  And of course my legions of minions who do my bidding.  But, Easy, are you actually serious?  At first I thought it was just an ironic dig at devaluing the archives site with a bunch of us self seeking independent grabbers.

Now, I'm beginning to think you are seriously trying to do a "flash mob" bit of practical joking.  Merry prankster anyone???

LOL.   I didn't see that until just now!  :-)  That is quite good, my plan is working.  Now, the rest of the incentive checks I sent should be just arriving in moments.

hmmm, I wonder if I should add to my instructions to be a little more subtle.  Although the album is akin to the very first music every heard on the planet earth, it's that fresh!

Alright Phideaux, it's down to you and me. What do you really think of my idea? Don't avoid.

hahaha, Easy, I think it would be a funny thing if people woke up in the morning and discovered a top 40 filled with strange obscure indie bands.  Even better would be if the Latest 50 Reviews were all for local meat...

However, me, I'm just a lawnmower, passing thru...  I have made a conscious effort not to review or get too involved.  However, I do love me some forum!

But if I reviewed it would all be 4 and 5 stars cuz I'd just want to review the things I lurve!  But, Easy, I've got to go to sleep now, I'll put my robot page clicker on autoclick and head out.  I predict we'll be number 1 by morning!

At first I really thought it was you playing a prank on us ;)

Ps. There's a good suggestion for your upcoming tenth albums title, 'TOP TEN'. Oh, the word play.

Easy i don't like your idea.

First what's the purpose to do that?

Second many of the works of fellow PA members are difficult to find (here in México, ok egos).

Third to the average visitor and lurker, did you consider that they REALLY interest to? more than the average visitor are here to talk about... Dream Theather and all it's incarnations!!!
