I've visited Prog Archives for quite a while now and recently decided to register.
If anyone's interested (and why should you be?) This is a bit about me and my likes and dislikes in music.
I am 55 years old. I used to play Bass guitar in bands. I love the drums. I still have my 1972 Fender Precision.
inspirational bass players: Chris Squire, Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clarke,
Great Drummers: Billy Cobham, Simon Phillips, Mike Mangini, John Hiseman, Mike Portnoy

My musical tastes are wide. I enjoy some classical music, some pop, soul, funk. jazz, rock etc etc.
I grew up with bands like Pink Floyd (Not a massive fan --love Ummagumma), Yes, Argent, Thin Lizzy.  Genesis, Steam Hammer, Van der Graf Generator, Deep Purple, King Crimson, Cream, Sabbath, Be Bop Deluxe (brilliant!) John Hisemans Colleseum, If, Wishbone Ash, Curved Air, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Johnny Winter, Kate Bush, Jethro Tull, Zappa, Steely Dan, Toto,Trapeze, Satriani, Steve Vai, Return To Forever, and a mutitude of others.
My favourite Prog band is Yes. I'm a big fan of Spock's Beard (Yes even without Neal Morse) and, dare I say it? Dream Theater. getting into *Frost also.
Someof my favourite Prog albums are:
Kevin Gilbert's The Shaming Of The True which improves with every listen.
Fragile by Yes
Spock's Beard The Light and Octane
Dream Theater Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (2nd disc)
Scenes From a Memory
Romantic Warrior
Anything by Be Bop Deluxe.
DISLIKES:
People who can't acknowledge musicality/talent just because it doesn't fit into the 'prog' category or they think it's 'commercial'
99.9% of rap 'music'  (Have I just contradicted myself??)
'Growling' in Death Metal.
Playing fast just for the sake of it.

Cheers off for a beer or two now.

I, too, like the mentioning of BeBop Deluxe, but the rest of your list isn't half bad, either! Welcome and enjoy every single visit!

I recommend Flash, as the other new ProgArchives Yes fanatic became addicted right away.

OK!
Given that what is and what isn't 'musical' is down to personal taste. I will concede that 'growling' takes talent and yes I have contradicted myself.
(another of my dislikes are people who can't admit when they are wrongBig smile)

A delayed "welcome" but a welcome nonetheless.

A quick question, was the picture of your avatar taken at 3RP in 2008?
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal.

Not a big fan of Death Metal any way, but this could be because the aforementioned growling puts me off so much I can hardly stand to listen the whole way through a song.
Hi Cap'n
The avatar wasn't taken at 3RP. but at The Academy Manchester. (Frost* in supporting role)The band was still playing and I was sat on the stage with Ryo.
Cheers
