I'm not sure if I condone this statement

Confused Wink

Nonetheless, an interesting game to watch, I was very impressed with Hilfenhaus' controlled outswing. Nothing more pleasing to me (as a bowler) than to watch someone toil away on a good line/length just to get the egde.

Should be a great "decider".

The main thing to worry me as an Englishman is that the Aussies will have all the confidence while we'll have,,, Bell and BoparaCry

Fair play to Australia, a thoroughly deserved victory and an embarrassing performance for England fans.

...and the latest is:

Freddie back, talk of Trescothick opening as a swan song without committing to a tour.

Tres would send shivers down the Aussies spines although I can't see it myself. He's the one Englishman who would obliterate the moderate Aussie attack. What a shame he suffers from a mental illness.

Ramps coming in at number 3, Gower 4, Hick 5 and Botham in before Prior.

Oh dear the media are just a joke!!!!

Dont discount England just yet, the bulldog spirit with the huge support from The Barmy Army will have a big say at the Oval and the Aussies know it. RP has already been out today to try and keep the momentum on Australia's side today.

We've already seen it this series, 1st Test owned by Australia followed by England's fine second Test victory.

If England get on top early the furore in the country will be unbelievable. It will be up to Australia to get on top first and they know it, the inexperience will show through otherwise.

Lets hope for the sake of cricket its a great game! Can't wait!! Clap

I think Ramprakash is a little long in the tooth to be playing test cricket. He never really shone when he was a regular choice.

Trescothick won't play.He has already refused. He walked away from test cricket a couple of years back.We can't risk his demons coming back to haunt him in such a decisive match.

Key is the...er...key.

Do 'The Stanley' otherwise I'll thrash you with some rhubarb.

Somehow I suspect fear (or hopefully the lack of it) is the key, particularly from an English perspective.

It's all this talk of Bopara turning out for Essex to regain his confidence that worries me... a number three bat  with low confidence shouldn't be selected IMO

Bopara isn't a number 3 or 4 test batsman. put him at 5 or 6 and he may be better.Who can tell? To all intents and purposes,England have been playing with a 10 man team. Yes, he may have had one or two dodgy umpiring decisions given against him but having just received a golden duck is enough to wreck anybody's confidence. Give him a years rest from test cricket and then reintroduce him via friendly internationals and see how it goes.

Do 'The Stanley' otherwise I'll thrash you with some rhubarb.

There is talk here of dropping Stuart Clarke again and replacing him with HauritzShocked Andrew Hilditch (Aust Selector) was on TV defending the process and saying how good it has worked as we won the last test and the team is just coming to form. Personally I think it is a little late to find form on the 4th test out of 5.
Anyway lucky for us you are not 2 up instead of 1.

England should not change the side with the exception of Bopara but if there is not a suitable replacement he should be in the nets everyday till the test and getting practice. Freddy replacing Harmison is not really a change.

It is a shame that KP is not fit.

Over here on the news ( don't they play it up) Aussies crush England was one of the headlinesLOL The English press are worse I believe ( does Al Jazerra cover the cricket)Big smile

Anyway it is not over till the Fat Lady Sings and in my opinion it is anybodys game.We have only won one test and we lost at Lords.

Robert Key would be a good selection choice for England . You need experience and gritty determination in such an important game as this upcoming test. He has these characteristics.

I don't see why Hauritz should be picked at all. We have Michael Clark and Marcus North and even Katich to bowl a few overs. If the wicket is turning, they have the chops to bowl well enough even if they are not as tight . Turning tracks usually means that faster bowlers will also get some cut . That is where Stuart Clarke and Siddle , in particular, can do well.

I hope we do not pick NH at the expense of SC. It could be a mistake.

Could be a very important toss to win . The pressure will be palpable. England at home should never be underestimated . The team will want to answer it's critics in the strongest possible way ! The Aussies will have to be right on their game. I would like to see them lift in the field as well.

Time , as always, will tell.

......and I'm a Saints supporter and I'm not just jumping on the band wagon. I have been since I was kneehigh to a grasshopper . After so many barren years , it's great to have something to crow about and man, am I crowing . Hope to be able to do so after the Oval battle as well.

Even travelled down from NQ a few weeks ago to see them wallop the Bulldogs at the Dome. [ For those in the northern hemisphere and elsewhere south of the equator, that's a trip of a little under 3,000 kms - so ya gotta love it ] .

A few hours to go. Not since the beaches at Normandy has a campaign been more important to either of us. My  prediction on the outcome has not been to far off (check my first post for the thread). I am hoping I am wrong with the series resultSmile.

Whatever happens lets hope its a good fight by both teams. Aust is in the better position but winning with a 1, 1 result if this test pans out to a draw is really just scrapin' in.

The Australian batsmen should be fined $5,000.00 if they hook or pull before they get to a minimum of 50 [ assuming , of course, they reach 50 anyway]. Another display like that disgraceful first innings a couple of tests ago would just about see England home . A slightly more conservative approach is required here from them imo, as runs on the board and occupation of the crease in this test, more than ever, are going to be crucial to the outcome.
