Zdnet is another good place for free and try before you buy software downloads, also cnet.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Windows media player from 9 or 10 up will rip in MP3. Look for the Options -> Tools -> Setting-> Rip Music tab. Change the rip settings format to mp3.
