So, I've read and heard that Sgt. Pepper's is 'the first' prog rock album.
Whatever, I'm making this thread to talk about the Betales, what you like, dislike, their aportations to music, etc.
I see their albums as a compilation of great pieces, every album has at least 2 o 3 very famous songs everywhere, they were pioneers of rock music...

well, I can't express my love for them, I'll only say that 'Abbey Road' is, to date, y favorite Beatles album LOL

So, what about you?

Love 'em, even a lot of the early stuff.  Abbey Road is my favorite as well.

Love them to death.Heart.....because of them we have the  chance to be on PA now!

I Like their beginnings, love everything starting with Rubber Soul/Revolver!

and to have the 2 best ever songwriters in the same band was a godsend! I don't know of any other Lennon/McCartney combo working that well!!Thumbs%20Up

Every album has at least 2 or 3 famous songs? A bit more than that, I would say.

I would also say that "Revolver" was more prog than Sgt Pepper. Apart from being a year earlier, it has "Tomorrow Never Knows".

they knew how to crystallize a song down its most relevant parts and leave out the extra fat, making music that seemed to arrive preordained  ..funny cause their early days were closer to punk rock shows than the master songsmiths we see later

"Let it Be" is criminally underrated, containing some of their best material.  Especially the new version that drops the strings.  I'll grab that disc every time over Abbey Road.

And I LOVE that rooftop concert!
...that moment you realize you like "Mob Rules" better than "Heaven and Hell"

Completely agreeClap.....great songs on it....just happen to be released after the icon Abbey Road, so that was a hard act to follow, but taken on its own merits, i don't see anything bad on LET IT BE!

Thanks Febus, I think you're the first LIB fan I've met!!  It's the boys at their simplest, song-based best.  No frills, just classic, Across the Univ, title track, LaWR, Two of Us, all of it!

....And i think this album appreciation has also suffered because it was released just at the time of their break-up and a lot of people felt ''betrayed'  and were disappointed' by that as the Fab four were part of their daily lives, so a certain resentment against the Beatles at the time has to be taken in consideration  and LET IT BE paid the price and still is. ( was considered as a rushed album even if it was recorded BEFORE Abbey road!)

What's wrong with an album featuring three  #1 MacCartney songs, a great Lennon Across The Universe, some nice rockers like One after 909 and an extraordinary MCCartney vocal performance on I've got a Feeling, a great duo with Lennon.??? Thumbs%20Up

The answer is absolutely nothing. Let It Be is an excellent album, although it did suffer a little bit when Phil Spector got a hold of it. The "Naked" version is great as well, but I still prefer the original.

The Beatles were so HUGE and so significant that they've almost taken on a mythical quality but when you put on an album like Revolver or Rubber Soul and just let it drift into your subconscious you suddenly realize what immense talent they had and what extraordinary rebels they were.  They changed everything.  And bear in mind that they did most of their very best work on 4-track recording machines.  4 tracks!

The Beatles were the reason I started getting into prog in the '70's.  They were and still are my "favorite" band.  I was raised in a musical family (classical music and jazz and, later, rock and folk were heard in our house all the time).  In fact, it was my bebop jazz-trumpeter dad who introduced the Beatles to all of us, in 1969.  The experience of hearing each one of their albums was an adventure for me.  You never knew what style you would hear, what guitar or keyboard sound, what sound effects, what harmonies.  Their eclectic approach to rock perfectly suited my eclectic musical upbringing.  For some of the same reasons I liked the Beatles, I also took to progressive rock.

Once in a while I'll look at a YouTube video of the Beatles and other bands, and I always read the comments.  What surprises me (and yet doesn't surprise me) is how many twenty-year-olds and teenagers leave comments, saying things like "I can't believe this was recorded forty years ago," or "'I Am the Walrus' is pretty bizarre.  It's still ahead of its time."  Tomorrow Never Knows is repeatedly referred to as the first electronica/acid house or trance song.  I think that's quite an accomplishment for a band who, three years earlier, produced "Love Me Do" (which I also like, lol).

I love them, they're my favourite band ever.

I've got all their latter stuff, but when you get earlier than Rubber Soul, I lose interest.  Still good music, though.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...
