You'll surely surpass me in reviews. I don't know when/if I'll write again.
I went only at first with the "albums we like more", then started focusing on the discography, then simply went with what I had unreviewed in the house. By that time, I actually couldn't tie two sentences together about the albums I loved most, too precioussss.
I practically have music for another 1000 reviews.

I'm gonna go check the "Reviews reporting thread", maybe someone reported you by now.

Five stars? Wow.
I would probably rate it a 3.

I know many people don't think much of it (I rated Test for Echo a four, by the way), but if you read the review, I think you might see why I love it so much.
|
Well, I can certainly see where you're coming from. And there are some pretty great songs on there, despite the fact that the whole thing is sonic mud as you alluded to (compression, etc.). I still can't believe they let the songs be butchered like that. No excuse.
Anyways, very good rock album, not a masterpiece of progressive rock - not even close in my book.
|
You know Pat, that's just something I had to forgive I guess, but then again, "production" is a low factor on the totem pole- Nursery Cryme is terrible in that respect, but is an amazing album in terms of composition (which is what I tend to look for more).
|
Certainly when the music is great one can overlook production/sound issues - ultimately, the problem for me is that the songs just didn't stick out and/or weren't memorable for me. I still prefer the best tracks from Test for Echo to anything from Vapor Trails (although VT overall is probably a better album - a lot of tracks from TfE didn't stand the test of time); and certainly I vastly prefer both Counterparts and Snakes & Arrows to VT, using the most recent Rush output (even though Counterparts is far from recent now).

| No, it's more "Let's defend Phideaux!" and "These guys rate all Pink Floyd albums fives and everything else a one!" ![LOL LOL](smileys/smiley36.gif)
So funny how people try to manipulate ratings.

| In general for me, I like Lee's more mature voice and the fuller sound of Peart's drums and Lifeson's guitar.
The screeching vocals for the longest time I hated, and on earlier albums, the band just doesn't sound "together," if that makes any sense.

I don't know what's got into trolls with Phideaux. Don't they have DT to focus on?
| Even I have experienced such- someone who I am almost certain has NEVER heard my album (my fan base is that small ) rated my album with a three, but no review.

Unlike Rush, after so much hiatus in the late 90s, you did good work, so I wouldn't have why.
I'm not sure I'd call it one of the decade's best albums, though. ![Wink Wink](smileys/smiley2.gif)
| Decade? Heh...I'd settle for the week of January 10th 2009.
