You're a lost cause.  Wink

No, I'm a lost cause.

This is because I'm listening to Pure Reason Revolution and actually enjoying it. I shouldn't like this kind of music. ErmmLOL
I really like The Dark Third, so there you go.  I haven't heard the new one yet.

The new one is the polar oppposite of the debut. While the debut was psychedelic prog-ish with bits of electronica, their sophomore effort is mostly electronica with touches of psychedelic.

I guess I like it as much as I do because I just like electronic music, and it's the first electronica I've heard other than Radiohead that isn't about the same boring, repetitive beat for 3 minutes.

Although the fantastic vocal harmonies are still present. Big smile

I am a little bit leery about the new one because I am not that big in to the electronica, but I did really love the vocal harmonies, so if they are still present than it might be OK for me.

And I've heard Angherr Shisspa more times than I can remember. One of the few albums I could listen to in my head. Also, I'd highly recommend the remastered version of their debut, but I never heard the original version, so I sadly can't comment on that. Although their debut is probably my 2nd favorite now.....along with Ni.....and Nivraym. Embarrassed

I will say this album is definitely a grower. I wanted to give it 2 stars the first time I heard it simply because I can't stand electronica, but I eventually wrote a 4 star review for it.

And now, I am off to work gents (3-11 today Dead). Have a good one!

Absolutely Jesus Christ!!

I don't think we've ever been so opposed in preferences as right now, Rob.

It ranks alongside Hemispheres as my favorite Rush album.  Approve

Five stars?  Wow.

I would probably rate it a 3.

I know many people don't think much of it (I rated Test for Echo a four, by the way), but if you read the review, I think you might see why I love it so much.

You know, I'm very greedy with that five star button.  With 200+ reviews, fewer than 18% are five star.

On the other hand, I'm very generous, I think: Only seven of those 200+ reviews are one star.

Geek

I know what I like...

An excellent review Rob!  I am not sure where I rate Vapor Trails in the grand scheme of Rush albums.  I'd say it is probably middle of the pack, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing in comparison to everything else.  I remember being absolutely shocked when I heard One Little Victory for the first time on the radio.  I had learned that the local station was going to play it about a month before Vapor Trails was released.  It was so heavy I couldn't believe that it was Rush.  It took a couple of listens, but I fell in love with it like I do everything else Rush.  Your review definitely makes me want to go home and give it a spin.

Well, I can certainly see where you're coming from.  And there are some pretty great songs on there, despite the fact that the whole thing is sonic mud as you alluded to (compression, etc.).  I still can't believe they let the songs be butchered like that.  No excuse.

Anyways, very good rock album, not a masterpiece of progressive rock - not even close in my book.

Sinkandotentree remains the most generous with 4-5 stars ratings.

For high ratings overall, I might argue Cesar Inca...almost 800 reviews and not a single one of them are 1 or 2 star ratings!  LOL

Guess the guy just loves his music!  LOL

And I don't think 18% of the total is greedy. I've rated around 65 albums with "five diamonds" (and some are fragile - I just noticed Wakeman's "Sea Airs" got a 5 from me. w0000t?!) out of the 958 I reviewed. WinkApprove

You know Pat, that's just something I had to forgive I guess, but then again, "production" is a low factor on the totem pole- Nursery Cryme is terrible in that respect, but is an amazing album in terms of composition (which is what I tend to look for more).

Sure, but I think as a general rule, we tend to review albums we like more (and first), because I think we'd rather brag on amazing music than crap on terrible music (and sit through the album for the sake of reviewing it).

Give me time.  I will surpass you in both reviews and in five star stinginess.  TongueWink
