Ok, I'll play, I've picked out ninty six so far, four more to go.  Give me a few days, I'll put them in some kind of order.

Points for seeing two people with Queensryche in their top fifteen, espicially Mike's inclusion of Promised Land.

I will post my list very soon.

However, I notice on several lists posted so far that there are a number of jazz albums (Miles Davis: 'Kind of Blue', 'A Tribute to Jack Johnson' and 'Bitches Brew'.  Billy Cobham:  'Spectrum'.  Etc).

I certainly agree that 'Kind of Blue' (along with several other Davis albums) is one of the best albums ever recorded, but I wouldn't include it in a Prog Rock list.

Are we supposed to be compiling a Prog Rock list? Or can it be any progressive music (jazz, classical, avante garde etc)?

I thought I should check first, because it will affect my list quite significantly.

I believe the rule is, if it's listed on the site, it's good.

If it's on the site it's fair game. Seemed like the easiest definition of prog that could be agreed upon. There are certainly plenty of non-prog albums on this site, but then where do draw the line?

So Far (and I haven't even entered all the lists already entered) the top 25 aren't a big surprise other than subtle order. After that there are some very interesting things happening.

A few people made duplications and a few people had glaring omissions (Like having all of a band's catalog except the most popular, which is fine if intentional of course.)

And yes I will check for changes.

Negoba, I have a question. You're doing this really quickly. Are you manually inserting in to a spreadsheet and then giving out points like that or do you have a more efficient method?

Could you please point out the duplications, so if it's one of us we can know and edit.

And you are reffering to the omission of Close to the Edge in my list?

Your CTTE omission was one example. Someone else has almost every Genesis album except Foxtrot. The database is at work. You had one duplication (Brufords Part and Apart) and there was one other (rtdprog has ITCOTCK at 27 and 93, interesting).

Yes I am manually entering into a spreadsheet. It's making me wish I had done 50 instead of 100, but of course that's where more unique albums come in. It's definitely expanding my wish list.

As I get more lists in, there are fewer new albums to enter, just scores and I use a checksum to makesure I haven't made mistakes.

^ah, it's not to make controversy, but I really not a fan of Close to the Edge other than Siberian Khatru, and the out-of-this-world 'I Get Up' section from Close to the Edge, though other than that, I don't find the album something that I enjoy, even if I definitely see it's awesomeness.

As long as its on purpose, then of course it's valid. I just wanted to make sure people weren't accidentally forgetting. It took seeing the song live to really make me the fan I am now.

^cool, you went to see them? That must have been great...

However don't get me wrong, I love the band, hence the position of a lot of their albums in my list, but Close to the Edge doesn't click me as the others have done. However I definitely recomend it to any new Prog fan, probably one of my first recomendations...

Try that with 250. That should explain some things.

How could it not?

Why must my spell-checker continually underline the word "prog"?
