 Topic: Is Band on the Run a prog album?

I was listening to one of my favorite albums (Band on the Run), and I couldn't help think that the album alone has some very progressive moments. Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five is pretty much a full blown prog song, and even the title track has its moments. Add in some reprises and you have a prog album, right?
I'm not suggesting Paul McCartney & Wings get added as prog related (some of the albums have no relation whatsoever), but this album I often think of as a crossover prog album.
Your thoughts about this album?

I have suggested Wings as Prog Related...and was shot down 
Band On The Run is proggy though.  |

It has some prog elements.
Great album BTW. And I love the Linda McCartney moog solo on the title track  
Venus And Mars is also quite good, though it didn't get the critical acclaim that its predecessor got. There the first tracks are also proggy. Not the rest of the album, but still great music  |

Prog-influenced at best. Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five and the title track show it most clearly. The rest of the album is superb blues and pop. But yeah, those proggers unfamiliar with the album might get a surprise from listening to Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five.

Venus and Mars has an even stronger argument IMO than Band on The Run. I have and still will argue Wing's merits for PR inclusion. There are threads in the PA evaluation discussion thread somewhere.
Both great concept albums too.

I can certainly say this was one of my favorites before I became a full blown prog freak. Haven't heard it in years though.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I think if The Beatles are here, Wings should probably be here
A) because Paul McCartney from the Beatles was involved
B) They do have some progressive albums (Venus and Mars as well)

An excellent album from a generally underrated band, but if we're going to add Wings we may as well add The Carpenters while we're at it.

Sing a song make it simple to last your whole life long...  Calling Occupants is borderline prog related, but NOTHING else in their discography is prog. Wings, on the other hand have Band on the Run and Venus and Mars on their side.

I kinda liked the Carpenters many years ago. We were forced to sing along to Carpenters songs back in middle school.   "We've only just begun to" arf barf barf. (Apologies to Karen for that.)

I always thought Wings has some proggy moments, especially Band on the run and some of Venus & Mars. Live and let die sounds prog to me too with its changes and different sections. But I wouldn't even suggest Wings for this site cos I'm getting a bit tired of these discussions about what is prog and what is not. All I know is Band on the run is a masterpiece, I couldn't care less if it's considered prog or not.

Damned if that title track didn't creep back into my mental ear. "And the county judge, who held a grudge, will search for ever more..." I have not listened to this album in about 40 years. I'm pretty sure it's around here somewhere, but I'm not digging it out. Not to slam the album or anything.

I love the album, I really do, but it isn't Progressive at all. It's just above-par Pop Rock.
