I just noticed I haven't reviewed a Flower Kings album yet! I think I'm going to attempt to write a review of my favorite Flower Kings album today- The Sum of No Evil.

Please check out my Progressive Music Blog: The Leviathan.

^ I haven't been able to find Thud as of yet, is it a good one?  I love "The Shaming of the True" and "The Kaviar Sessions" though it is a bit on the disturbing side of things.

I love the album Thud. Very good stuff. Not quite as brilliant as "The Shaming of the True" in my opinion, but still great. I can't see someone not liking this album if they love Shaming of the True. Some great catchy melodys, heartfelt emotion, and a great prog song called Shadow Self that rivals City of the Sun as my favorite Kevin Gilbert song.

So, I recommend it Thumbs Up

I also love Thud. Not quite as good as Shaming, but is an excellent album. My review should explain it.

Thanks for the supporting comments on my issue, guys. I appreciate it (and of course we are all very right with our comments) and I would like to state one more thing about the matter: read Sean Trane's review about Caravanserai by Santana. Now this is an album he likes a lot and suddenly he can write a real review.
Besides this (but this is in fact an unfair statement of mine but I do want to say it) he wanted to give the album 6 stars. But if I compare that album with any TFK album, I feel Caravanserai is more of a pale one. (swallow that mr Chantraine !)
Or in Rolands terms: I feel like I just scored a touchdown !

After going off on all of these tangents (they rock btw) let's get back on TFK.

The Truth Will Set You Free or The Devil's Playground?

See, I'll be the odd one out and go with "The Devil's Playground".  Both good songs, but the end of "The Devil's Playground" is the highlight of Unfold the Future for me.

. . . and kudos to Progrocker for bringing us back to a thread of discussion that The Flower Kings themselves would be more proud of.

I can't believe you can't find Thud but have TSotT and The Kaviar Sessions. Both of those can be really hard to find, especially The Kaviar Sessions.Thud is relatively easy to get ahold of.

I have purchased all my KG albums with the exception of his Giraffe albums from his official site.

Don't know if you know it but his estate will be releasing two more albums of unreleased material in the same vein of Thud and one live Toy Matinee album.

Afraid I disagree about Caravanserai, that album is a complete masterpiece and one of the finest albums I've ever heard........but it's no excuse for Hughes crappy FK reviews.  I agree with everyone's comments to the effect that it's fine if he feels they deserve a single star, but he needs to state his case and actually LISTEN to the entire albums more than once (and I don't get the sense he even listens to them once).  He does this in other reviews as well, which is a shame, because some of his reviews I've quite enjoyed reading and his musical tastes are not that far from mine aside from the obvious difference of TFK.

This is why I've reposted some of my old reviews under my unlinked name........because I wanted to clean them up, flesh them out, and make them decent reviews (as I did with most of my FK reviews).  He has always had the ability to update his reviews, and has done so, but only to placate the admins and not to add any substance to them.  We should take this up with the admins, seriously.

But as I said, I like a lot of his reviews and many of them are very informative (especially about bands from his native Belgium and from Canada where he spent most of his formative years).  It's a shame he can't remove them or give the albums more listens and give detailed explanations of why he doesn't like them.

I have written some one star reviews, but I try to explain my issues with the music and I always give an album 4 or 5 spins at an absolute minimum before I pass judgement (and if I can't get through an album even once, I don't review it).

I mean I can accept if someone has a different taste and doesn't like them but at least write a respectable review about the albums and REALLY explain why you have such a problem with them.
Another possibility could be for him: write one or two reviews of a band you hate and leave them alone for the rest. But this guy really felt the urge to bash (almost) all TFK albums and thus is partly responsable big time for their relatively low averages.
Well, at least I got this off my chest now, feeling better already !

So why don't we all complain to the admins about this character's (so-called) reviews of Flower Kings albums?

He obviously has some issue with The Flower Kings that is nothing to do with their music so the reviews have no merit what-so-ever. They are just vindictive.

I've complained about negative TFK reviews by similar characters on Amazon before now. There just seems to be a certain type of prog fan who has it in for them without actually listening properly to them.

There are loads of groups that I think I don't like but I'm not about to log onto forums to give albums I haven't heard 1 star. This bloke seems to be on an anti-TFK crusade for some strange reason.

I think there was an ex prog afficianado in my area, we have a local used CD store that I bought a bunch of CD's from when I first got onto my prog kick.  I don't know if he just dumped his collection and they sat there forever or what.  As I learned of new artists, I looked them up and often found them.

I'll have to keep an eye out for the new ones once they're released, though sadly, money is a bit on the tight side and I have a few items ahead of KG on my list, unless I find a used deal on Amazon or here in Pittsburgh, it will be some time.

Exactly, that's what this is about. And Jeff and Tom: I understand you rather talk about TFK but this is also about TFK !! And they are done severe injustice by this guy. We don't have to take this. So yes, I agree with Nov to make a complaint and we can actually underline it with the rule that - besides that a review oughts to be respectable - it has to contain at least 100 words. Maybe we can find one that isn't and otherwise stick to the other rule. Because it's true that he doesn't talk about the real content of the album and just uses some fake arguments. Apparently he isn't just on an anti-TFK crusade but also wants to make as many reviews possible without bothering about the content. More reviews have been erased in the past because of this. Maybe we can hand him Rolands FP review as an example how it should be done LOL.

From those two I prefer The Truth, but for me Silent Inferno is better than both of 'em.  I think it's the best track on Unfold The Future.

^ ^^ etc.  Remember folks, don't inflame an injured TFK fanAngry, a wounded animal is dangerous LOL.

^

I'd have a hard time deciding between those two epics.  Silent Inferno doesn't seem as good to me now as it did back when the album was released though, so I wouldn't rank it with those two.  Since I enjoy the more bombastic epics, I guess Devil's Playground gets the nod.  However, my favorite FK epic of them all is easily Garden of Dreams.  It is, in fact, my favorite prog epic hands down!
