Sorry, it's just that there are too many options for a cool avatar As for Zappa, you could check his entire instrumental album which focus' on his guitar very much like Astral Dog. Though got to warn you, it's 120 minutes of his guitar, so it might get a bit dense. The album I'm talking about is 'Guitar'. Definitely not his best as a guitarist either as a composer. On the other hand you could check Zoot Allures, here's the title track which I find it quite alike Astral Dog: Another song from Zoot Allures, quite famous: But again I've got to warn you, if you're expecting Zappa's unique and complex compositions you won't find them in those albums, I'm just recomending you albums that share the similaritie with Astral Dog. As for complex compositions, unique sense of humor() and stunning guitar perfomances, the live album Zappa in New York is totally a must, though quite hard to get into at first. If you got any doubts, just PM me at 666-111-3434 or right here |

Random Answers:
Zappa, good stuff, I have a combination of Apostrophe and Overnight Sensation which is great fun. To this day, when ever either me or my wife gets something in an eye (other than a finger) we'll sing the fateful lament of Nanook and his encounter with the fabled yellow snow. I have his greatest hits as well. Also, I noticed that "Agents of Mercy" have been added to the PA. |

Cool, that is to listen! haha. They were not really random questions though, just a recomendation based on if you liked Astral Dog which is very Zappa-ish. If you're keen on more of his stuff, One Size Fits All would complete the trilogy of Overnite and Apostrophe. Roxy & Elsewhere is also pretty essential. |

^ Pablo, I know Flower Power is expensive, but believe me it's well worth it. I left Flower Power until last, but I'm glad I did as it's one of their very best.
After 5 listens to Garden Of Dreams I have to say this is simply a work of genius and listening to it is a truly emotional experience. Astral Dog is another great track. On disc 2 the standard drops a little, but Deaf Numb And Blind is truly awesome. I also love Power Of Kindness and Psychedelic Postcard.
Flower Power is a must-have.

Yeah, added under Neo Prog????? Weird. I suppose it is pretty mellow, so maybe. But I figured symphonic for sure. Oh well, I'm not that versed in Neo so maybe it fits? |

First: well spotted Roland ! Because I must have looked right before it was added. I looked yesterday (my almost daily check) and there was no AoM yet. Anyway, they are finally there and now Mike's question: NO AoM is NOT neo. And I can tell you: it's an insult to NEO that AoM is placed there. I mean Fading Ghosts...
is a nice album but the style is nowhere near neo. So, I'm sorry but it's a blunder by the teams.
It should have been symphonic or crossover.

I placed my order.
from tomas: I am about to release my brand new CD"YOU ARE". This is the 2:nd part of the trilogy [I AM, YOU ARE, HE SHE IT IS] I started to work with "YOU ARE" back in 2006. So I can easily say that it feels good to finalize this project! I AM was very much my own life story. But this time I'll take a closer look upon contemporary issues in the outside world. The album contains 7 songs, and is clocked around 77 minutes. The songs are. You Are 9,03 Poor Lucille 12,43 Food 7,58 Dad is coming home 11,21 Private skies 9,22 American Standards 5,33 Silicone Bimbo Run 21,20 Now I need help moneywise to pay the printing of the CD. Therefore I ask you to pay me in advance (Like you did with Agents of Mercy) The price is 20 Euro and that includes shipping worldwide. Payment is done via PayPal and my id is tomas.bodin@ telia.com Please feel free to listen to some snippets at www.myspace. com/tomasbodinke yboard |

I wonder why they are in neo prog. They are either symphonic or eclectic, but not neo... |

Saw your review of Agents Henk and had to add my own. Even though we gave the same rating, mine was a bit more positive than yours. But on the whole, I agree with your sentiments. Not one of Roine's stronger projects. Though I still do enjoy about half the songs quite a bit. I think it's kind of a stripped down prog, which isn't surprising since it was supposed to be an acoustic folk type project originally.
By they way, I'm looking forward to Roine and Jonas' fusion project which is nearing completion as I understand it. Edited by infandous - July 14 2009 at 13:55 |

I noticed yours too, Mike. You're right our reviews aren't really similar but one thing we agree about: the second song ofthe album is by far the weakest. This is really very poor. Fortunately after this one the album gets stronger and stronger. But never excellent imo.
But the main reason I kept things a bit negative was because of my last statement: I want TFK back.
Do you know when they're supposed to be back ? (preferably with their new album !)

Sadly, I've heard no word. There are rumors that is it more than just a sabbatical.....that Roine simply can't afford to keep the band together (he pays all the other members for the work). Also, a new FK album would most likely have to be self - released, as it seems Inside Out is not able to support most (or maybe any) of it's bands with it's parent company in bankruptcy.
However, Roine has said nothing along those lines, and hopefully the new TA album will fill his coffers again enough to put out a new FK album. In any case, it isn't going to be soon I'm afraid. Still, I am looking forward to the new Tomas Bodin album which he has to release on his own, solely from pre-orders..........so if he doesn't get enough of those, the album will not be released. Difficult times for us fans for sure. |

I really hope it's not going to be the end of TFK, that would be unfair. If Roine can afford to make albums with Agents Of Mercy, surely TFK won't be a problem?
I'm sure that if they funded a new TFK album by pre-orders they'd be inundated with orders. I'm sure everyone on this thread would be ordering straightaway. Anyway, on an optimistic note I'm sure the new Transatlantic album (and tour, live album and concert DVD ) will be a big money-spinner for Roine, so hopefully a TFK album might follow.

Yeah Roj, I think the TA thing is going to boost all the members bank accounts hopefully. I'll certainly be buying it And with anything Portnoy is involved with, you can pretty much bank on a live album/DVD after the tour

Hi Henk, how's it going buddy? Amazon now tell me they can't get The Flower King , problems with the supplier!! So I've ordered from elsewhere but I'm not holding out much hope. Even used copies are a bit thin on the ground at the moment. I'm loving Garden Of Dreams. After 5 listens I have to say this is simply a work of genius. I feel like I know it completely already, so I am quite proud of myself. It probably falls in about 5 or 6 in my all-time TFK list now. I think cd2 is less good, but still some great tracks especially Deaf Numb & Blind and Power Of Kindness. Incidentally Henk, thanks for posting on the IQ thread, I have now replied. Don't worry, I'll be spending most of my time "at home" here on the TFK thread.

Sorry I haven't posted here lately, been rather busy on a few fronts.
Just in case Roine and the gang is reading this, I'd totally pre-order any Flower Kings album if it would help the band out. It would be a shame for such a wonderful band to simply fade away due to a financial crisis. I will say this, the recession will end at some point and even if SPV / Inside Out folds, I'm certain that another label will resurface eventually to sign some of the Inside Out bands. Things are tough world wide, of that there is no doubt. If the band is on hiatus only because of financial issues, then they will be back once the economy can support them. |

Well, I don't think the hiatus was for financial reasons, only that that might prolong it. As much as I dislike the hiatus, I think it will be good for Roine and the band, allowing them to come back with new focus, new ideas, new energy, etc. Ideally, anyway. I always used to worry that they were going to put out a bad album, go the way of the older prog bands and either disband, write more mainstream material, or just loose their magic. I stopped worrying about that a few albums ago I have faith that if/when they return, we will all be very pleased with the results. |

I have every confidence too, Mike. So far they haven't really disappointed me even once with an album. Of course there are the occasional sloppy songs on their albums but that's always compensated with superb epics imo.
The only disappointing album by Roine & Co I ever heard was Hydrophonia by him solo (though not everyone agrees with me there) and of course Agents of Mercy. All the other output is simply great ! Edited by progrules - July 20 2009 at 01:44 |

Good to hear man, this is where you belong .
And I'm really sad about your Flower King album harassment. I think it's rediculous ! I will send you a copy if this continues. I mean I want TFK to receive the full price for their albums but they should take care of good suppliers.
And if they don't we'll take matters in our own hands, don't we ?
We can't have that one of the biggest fans simply will have to live without one of their best albums. That's intolerable !!!!!
So you give the signal if you had enough of this situation. And we'll arrange something. Ok ?
