I had a friend who burned me 10 or so songs, and one of the ones on there was the bonus track on the new Isis album (which I didn't have yet). I can't believe they didn't put this on the album! This is one of the best songs on there.

There are many like that. That's Me for From Genesis To Revelation was superb, Phallus Dei's bonus tracks were insanely good. Motorhead could quite happily have replaced the rather clunky Kings Of Speed off Warrior On The Edge Of Time. And so forth.

I agree totally. Sometimes I wish bands would just go ahead and put the bonus tracks on the album, especially for bands that are around today, what with CDs being able to hold more material.
Also, speaking of Phallus Dei, I really need to give Amon Dull II an honest chance now that I like Can a lot. Where should I start?

I have all of three of their albums, so I'm not a great source; I think Wolf City is the my favourite, now, in that it's both more focussed and slightly zanier than the other two. Phallus Dei itself didn't make a huge impression on me; Yeti is a very strong album, on the other hand, its half-improvised nature (and these are great improvisations) is going to alienate some listeners. I need to get some more of their albums sometime.

I was thinking of starting with Phallus Dei or Yeti as it was. I think Krautrock tracks are (generally) better as medium and long songs, since that helps with building the improvisations. But my experience of Krautrock at this point is pretty much just Can.

Yeah, I remember reading your review for it. Although I imagine I'll check it out eventually, since I want to explore Krautrock a bit more fully eventually.

The problem with Can is that it's really boring. I can dig the free form improvisation of ADII (even though I never really pursued it further), but I hate minimalism forever.

Understandable I guess. But then again, I absolutely love Can's rhythm section, and the bass riff on Halleluhwah is the only thing that makes me think it's okay for Can to write 18 minute jams.
