Well, their social issues are the ones I more or less agree with. And I guess I can only vouch for what I know but almost every libertarian, or libertarian-esque Republican I know loves Reagan. And as for your comment of the far left of the Democratic party being socialist.....NO The most left ones I can think of, like Dennis Kucinich is NOT a socialist. Socialistic yes, but I'm tired of people just labeling all leftists as socialist. That is a complete replacement, (or just about) of capitalism. If the democrats are socialist like people claim then we have always been a socialist country for a long time. Anyone who is truly that left leaning would not be a democrat, they just wouldn't take it. |

I think it's just a matter of not being well informed. Most people just believe what they've been told about Reagan (IE: a conservative economic god)

Yesterday I saw in FXNWS there's this new book being released by a (R) that's about freedom and how we are about to lose it in the US and we have to stop it by stopping the spread of socialism...
My question is, even if we agree that socialism is really coming (which is not... ), what is it so atrocious about democratic-socialism like they have in many places in Europe? What is this freedom we're supposed to lose if democratic-socialism entres the country? Nobody here is talking hard-line soviet-style socialism so.... I don't undertand what "freedom" we'll lose... The freedom to make monmey regardless of other people's lives? The freedom to put greed before people? What freedom?

Well with socialism, you lose a lot of say so on what happens with your money/business. Sure greedy people hate that, but it sucks for honest people too. Too bad there's no way to just heavily tax and regulate the greedy. It's like when a whole classroom of grade school kids lose their playground time, because a few of them were horsing around too much. Plus people are also concerned that things will end up being poorly mismanaged like California. You may think that socialism's benefits outweigh the downsides/risks, but you should at least be able to understand why some would object, w/o just labeling them as greedy libertarians/republicans. Or you can blindly label people to help your conviction/conscience. It works for Fox News after all, why not for you?

Man, I'm stuck with insomnia, and I choose to come here. Wtf?
And then there's what they didn't tell you. 8 of them voted against it because 8 Republicans voted for the bill (stupid party poltics) and about 20 of them voted against it saying that the changes in the bill weren't radical enough (nutcases). Should we get rid of ALL coal use then? Only 70% of our energy comes from it anyway. Also, I don't really care if you're for or against universal health care. This is just absolutely nuts. You can't force people to sign up for it, especially since last time I checked, that wasn't very democratic. Oh, and I'm also glad that these fines go into the income tax system. I mean, we already have plenty of people who don't pay into it at all since their income is low enough, so let's raise the costs on those who do, especially the middle class. |

Soooo, Palin is stepping down as Governor of Alaska.
Just caught her speech, it was really an empassioned, stirring speech about those unfounded allegations levied against her and how it's costing the citizens of Alaska and she can't let that continue. I'm also sure it has NOTHING to do with the fact her popularity in Alaska has gone from over 70% down to 50 in less than a year, (welcome to the national stage Sarah!) And like any good republican, she managed to work the "big hand of the government" into her speech. Because we all know it dosn't matter what you're talking about....its a must to have that dirty, hand of government reference. Not that this really has any impact, she's still running in '12 of course. *Awaiting a funny political cartoon and then overly sarcastic response from Henry* Edited by JJLehto - July 03 2009 at 19:14 |

If she is one of the better options that either party (D) or (R) has to offer then this country of ours is in a sad state of affairs. When did the U.S of A become a country of sound bites rather than a country of substance? |

Psh, just because Slartibartfast's cartoons annoy me doesn't mean I don't hate Sarah. During the elections my parents kept saying that at least she is a good person (they are conservative, but not blind), but I'm not convinced she is. She probably thinks she's a good person.

The whole "good" person thing is tough.
As it is right now, I'd be inclined to agree she is not....but really thats so difficult to determine. What we CAN determine is she is dumb. Im sorry but the whole seeing Russia from your house then later CONFIRM your belief in that statement. Not being able to name one newspaper, not even a local one? And I know this is personal preference, but I can not stand that Wisconsin......er "alaska" accent. I just want throw a spear through her face dont ya know! |

In fairness to her, she never said anything like "I can see Russia from my house", that's from SNL, and I am positive the newspaper thing was screwing the media which she perceived as unfairly critical and biased. They weren't, although the internet was with everyone believe the whole Trig wasn't her baby thing, but her perception is what's important when considering her intent.

Don't watch SNL. Most of the skits from that show are as dumb as she is!
And I'm sure it got exaggerated but I remember watching with my own eyes an interview with her giving her a chance to explain the whole thing and she just went with ya! thats what I said! As for the newspaper.....I find that tough to believe Henry. But if she DID do that snub the media...well that's pretty dumb in my book. Regardless, I hate the woman. I disagree with her policies, I know most politicians are phony but I really hate here "hockey mom" thing. And I can not stand that voice of hers. I forgot what comedian said it but, "People say they want a President you can hang around and have a beer with. Go to bar, look around...see anyone you want to be President?" |

In the end Sarah wasn't qualified to be governor nor vice president. I got a good laugh out of watching a viewer call in on C-SPAN this morning with calls from her supporters. These are basically the people who get most of their information from Fox "News" and radio hate talk, which means they are basically clueless. Now a witty cartoon:
V By the way, somewhat creative use of colors, though they've done better, very ugly underneath... sorry, a Palin one: This one should be reasonably offensive. By the way, I don't hate Sarah, I just don't have any respect for her.
