I was looking at the page, and noticed that about half the threads on the first page have been moved. I think it might be a good idea just to have a prominent statement somewhere in this forum that would say what should and shouldn't go here

This one is going to get moved too.  LOL

I don't think I've ever successfully posted a thread in this section, and I've been here a while.

I always thought he headings made it self evident for the most part, but I've constantly seen people posting stuff in places that I felt should have gone elsewhere for obvious reasons.  Still I have no responsibility for that, so don't get mad at me. LOL

*sigh*

"The white zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in a red zone."

okay - I haven't got a clue where this thread should live but I'll tell you something for free - it does not live in the Prog Music Lounge since it is evidently a) not about Prog and b) not about Music.

I guess we could have a vote on which lounge would be best suited for this thread, or I could randomly move it to the back of beyond, without attaching a "moved" flag and let you find it without assistance or safety net.
What?

The Prog Music Lounge is for discussions about Prog Music, except when it's a discussion about a particular band or album ("Appreciation" section) or it's about lists of albums ("Top 10 Lists" section).

I think that's about right.

I made a thread about the hardest review for PA, and I got sent to the depths of general music discussions.  Disapprove

I think the move was appropriate, but the thread title should have been more specific about what thread was talking about.

Sometimes if the thread deviates too much from the OT then it could feasibly get moved - threads don't always go according to plan and adopt a life of their own some days. Not saying that happened in Rob's case since I don't know the thread in question.

Everyone wants their thread to be in the PML - but we cannot have that - as Mike said, the PML is for Prog Music discussions (hence my Airplane quote) - it will get too crowded and threads become buried very quickly, so while it may at first look attractive to have your pet topic in the PML, it could have longer life and a higher number of replies in a less busy lounge.
What?

I really hate that half the threads in Prog Lounge have been moved. Not that I object to their being moved, but the markers stay on the page forever and make the forum impossible to read.

Here's one we prepared earlier.

From an admin perpective, some people think they should be exempted from these guidlines, and should simply open threads wherever they want. There is also a perception that some threads are more important than others.

We also get spammers and people looking to promote themselves or their band. They think the use of the word "prog" somewhere in their post gets them around the guidelines.

We have the various sub-sections in an effort to help threads to last longer. If we get a dozen new threads in the Prog Music Lounge every day, interesting ones soon get swallowed up and disappear.

The high activity in the forum tends to indicate that its structure works well. We're always open to suggestions for improvement though. Bottom line is, if you don't want your thread moved give a lttle though to the correct section for it in the first place.

Hi,

I think there is an indexing issue that is a problem in this board ...

If the thread has been moved the index for each folder is not reflecting that change. This thread is showing in the incorrect area a reply switches it to its new/current area.

ADMINS .... can you address that please?

Thx

^ That's one of the problems of leaving a "moved" lcon so people can find the thread after it has been moved. The only real solution is for us not to use the "moved" icon.

The only thing that bugs me is that the Prog music Lounge is the only one that shows up on the front page, so if your thread, gets moved, it doesn't get read nearly as much. It seems like a lot of the other sub categories are just places where threads go to die. I would recommend some consolidation of sub categories and then displaying more of the sub categories on the front page somehow.

Well, only the PML... and Prog Polls Lounge, Prog Interviews and Prog Blogs...

I would have thought that most regular Forum posters (and lurkers) would be using the Forum home page or the New Posts page to monitor for new posts, not the PA Front Page. I would imagine putting top PML topics on the PA Front Page is more for attracting casual visitors into the Forum than for die-hard forumettes. If just being on the PA Front Page was the be all and end all of posting then everyone would be writing Prog Blogs instead of random JFF posts.

Or for the moved icon to work as it should, and not be bumped up by posts in the moved thread.
