6-0, 2-0 so far. They should try saying every ball she hits is masterliness.

I don't dislike 'styles', just music .... When I listen to something, whether I like it or not has absolutely nothing to do with its belonging to a particular subgenre, but only with what my ears and brain perceive as being good or not. For this reason, I have never participated in any of those threads about your favourite (or least favourite) subgenre. Unlike others here on PA, I will always be willing to give any band or artist a chance.

They do (I edited my post above), hahaha. "Com'on, Raluca. You can do. You're the best." Ja right. I don't understand, the commentator's so excited, it's just the second round for someone's who ranked so to advance at least until the third round (Sorana).

The only band I found tolerable in neo-prog was Darwin's Radio. Mike told me earlier it's the same vocalist that's in Frost* and I really really dislike Frost*.

So Cirstea plays with Azarenka, that's the end of her.
You're right, Fed it is killing on Center Court, I except a bit more.

What draws me to prog is the classic prog sound of Yes and ELP and dare I say Rush. And thus the reason why I like Neo because it maintains that sound. Sure the music may not be "The most original" but it is not as though Neo is a bunch of cover songs or previously written music with the words changed. Each of the bands has their own unique sound and style although there is a similiarity within that style. For me it is about the warmness and melodies of the songs, as well as the stories that are told. None of that exists in RIO/Avant, which to my ears sounds more like random notes thrown together to see what sticks on the wall. I can appreciate that it is this randomness of the notes that makes it sound so brilliant to its fans, but it just don't work for me.
And in regards to the snob comment, it does apply to many avant fans; see Rocktopus, and in many aspects also James. (I mean no offense by this but it is that love of RIO/Avant over any other form of music that prevails and does comes forth over the internet as snobbery. Of course, the funniness to labelling it snobbery, is that from the avant fan point of view, it is seen more as defending your favorite genre against the unfair persecution that it receives from folks like me that don't see its brilliance. ).

I've no idea who Vliegen is but he doesn't look like a tennis player. Hold on Cirstea is a woman?

Actually, I'm enjoying free jazz and avant-bop more at the moment. Plus I love Canterbury almost as much as a lot of avant-prog. Oh and erm, there's a lot of avant-prog in the database that sounds like classical music, as well as gypsy, klezmer and blasmusik. It's a very varied genre. The Science Group's debut, although not a concept album, has vocals all about science and it's melodic as well. I really love The Science Group.

You know, Scott, I agree with you about the snobbery of some people here, but not about the 'random notes thrown together'. Now, I am anything but an Avant expert, but what I have heard is far from lacking in melody, though it may be a kind of melody that puts you off (very dark, sometimes even claustrophobic). I am not into dissonance for its own sake myself, but I have a very instinctive approach to music - I like what appeals to me at a deeper level, whether it is pop, Avant, symph, metal, or whatever.

Well, good. My rant might result in something. I'll have to see if I can track down The Science Group.

I'd rather recommend something like Alamaailman Vasarat or perhaps something like Six Cylindres en V (but you'll have a rough time finding that band). So I'll recommend you Hellebore and Volapuk instead.
