Genesis kinda. I like Genesis, but apart from In The Cage and Moonlit Knight, I just don't find the rest very interesting. I don't dislike it, I just don't like it as much as everyone else does. I only have Selling England and Lamb, so maybe all I gotta do is get Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, etc.

I said it was absurd if you haven't any of his classics, but if you have then fine, personal taste. Please, I didn't mean to offend you. Simply I find Zappa one of the most gifted guitarists I've ever heard, his note-selection in a lot of his solos ,clearest example should be Watermelon in Easter Hay, is simply amazing and beautiful at the same time. Then as a composer/arranger in songs like Inca Roads, Zombie Woof, 50/50, Grand Wazoo, RDNZL, and much more, they're simply out of their time. Also his incredible flexibility to play from a whole bunch of other genres, and all of them being performed highly successful is another amusing thing that Zappa has. And of course like you said, the musicians on board are no less than very talented players. Oh and one more thing, his unique humor is really a bonus in a lot of his albums, specifically the masterpiece live album, Zappa in New York. However I understand some may not like it. (could add a lot more, but what I said is pretty much sums it up) Clear proof of all this mentioned should be the live album Roxy & Elsewhere, the already mentioned Zappa in NY, Hot Rats, The Grand Wazoo, Waka/Jawaka, Over-Nite Sensation, One Size Fits All, Studio Tan, Jazz From Hell, Joe's Garage, the live album Guitar and Make a Jazz Noise Here, and surely some more. |

Alot of prog metal.I just find it so cheesy in it's attempt of being macho yet "melodic".
Other then that Magma but I havent tried to hard to be honest,There just hasn't been a album that's clicked so far.The same applies to Gentle Giant,VDGG and Marillion. |

I probably missed something, but what I don't quite get, Sangria, is why everything you've heard has had lyrics you can't get into. Zappa has plenty of instrumental music. One of his biggest, that you must know, Hot Rats, has only one track with lyrics. Live, his music was often more instrumental based. Even if one doesn't like his lyrics, there's much music to like. I'll heartily second BaldFriede's suggestion of Yellow Shark. This is one I really like (must admit that I haven't explored his music that deeply despite that hearing "Peaches en Regalia" on the radio many years ago caused such a stir in me): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoJLMUBSMkc Edited by Logan - June 22 2009 at 21:21 |

Mike Oldfield. Especially Tubular Bells. I have 3 versions of it, don't like any of them. Can anyone say Ebay?
Klaus Schulze. I have most all of Tangerine Dream and about 10 of KS, but there are too many times that he sets the sequencer, goes to lunch and comes back 30 minutes later. I just don't get it.

Lets not forget latter King Crimson. I do like Thrak, but alot of it is ruined the noise from Fripps guitar and mostly by Belew's voice.

Radio Head: boring, boring boring..... When OK Computer came out, it was recommended by a friend.
I bought it, listened to it at least 10 times. I came to the conclusion that i don't like the music. But I also don't get why someone else would like it.
Pendragon: great music, as long as Barret shuts up. One of the most irritating voices in prog.

Mine is Pink Floyd, I respect them so much for all they've done for music, both good and bad. But I can't bring myself to actually enjoy them.

I thought of another one: Voivod. I guess they are often called prog metal. I've heard a few decent things by them (particularly their Astronomy Domine cover), but overall not my cup of tea. I saw them live once and the only thing that kept my attention was the fact that I was literally 2 meters away from Jason Newstead, one of my favorite metal bassists.

Yes. I just don't really think they're good. I feel like theres bands like ELP that have both mass technical ability and still have feel and write good music. I feel like Yes cares much more about that 6/8 to 5/4 to 4/4 with 2/7 over it kinda crap than they do about the music actually sounding good. I like crazy stuff like that, but at the end of the day, if ti doesn't sound good, it's not.

Whilst respecting other people's opinion, I can say quite simply why I like, no LOVE, OK Computer...it is because I marvel at how a group of young people could make such a stunning, emotional, sprawling piece of work at their age. It is because I have a fully functioning, questing, emotional, and empathic mind. It is because I appreciate and respect genius when I hear it. Rant over - no insult meant, and, I hope, taken |

Most Genesis
Almost all "Neo Prog" Most Post-Rock (To ambient alike, tends to bore me) Most Electronic prog (very often Cheap and cheesy) Most Ambient music (Very boring) Most Prog Metal (sounds often like power metal, emotions gone, to metalized, (I like NWOBHM and Thrash/Speed metal alot tho!). To all you who don't like Gentle Giant, Watch their live stuff first! (much better than studio versions) Some can be seen on youtube! I didn't like Gentle Giant at first listens/watchs, but I started listening to light jazz fusion, with roots in rock. Then i watched Gentle giant again and loved them! Many of you don't really like Jazz in prog that much, and it is necessary to like, to enjoy GG and VDGG + some of King Crimson's stuff. GG is also very Rythm (Climax's) based, try to accept the singer he is not that good imo too, but they play so well on their instruments and it sounds great!. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzDCfnBhinw Gentle Giant - Funny Ways http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWfmfgHXAfE Gentle Giant - Proclamation |
