This is a great thread.  One I had been thinking of starting my self.  For me it`s the following...
-anything by Riverside.  I know I`m supposed to like them but I just don`t
-anything by Porcupine Tree after In Absentia.  Loved that cd and some before it but after it....blah
-Not sure if Harmonium is considered "popular" but I`m supposed to like their second cd but I just don`t
   - I`m still trying to give Wobbler a chance but so far I haven`t been able to get into them.

Van Der Graf, just ran into them when i started reading stuff here, so havent given them all the time i should, but so far they dont move me at all.
ELP, known them forever, but i find em boring, would prefer Moody Blues anytime
Dream Teatre and Most of the other Hard Rock acts, to me they all sounds more or less the same. Not that i cant stand them, but they dont leave much of an impression on me.
Hard Rock i like : Tool (incl. APC & Pusifer), Mars Volta.
Prog is whatevey you want it to be. So dont diss other peoples prog, and they wont diss yours

Mastodon. Never have been able to grasp 'em. I'll probably get there eventually, but at the moment I'm just stuck with only being able to enjoy one song, The Wolf Is Loose.

Exactly my thoughts... But I love a lot of new prog like Arena, Transatlantic etc., but these two praised bands, generally speaking are bland to my tastes.

Zappa...

...can never get past the lyrics, which seem silly and juvenile to me. That said, I've hardly heard all of his releases, only maybe 15 - 20%.

The one band that comes to mind for me is Symphony X.  I like a few bands you can lump into the same genre (Dream Theater, Fates Warning), but Symphony X do little for me.  Same goes with some other prog metal bands but I don't want to say names in case I accidently say the wrong bands. LOL

King Crimson
CryEmbarrassed
A few good songs, (excellent actually) but overall they're tough for me.

And someone above said Mastodon. I love their first 2 albums but I just can not get into their "prog" albums. In fact I think they suck. I'm in a small minority, but I just do not like their last few.

I agree, They are full of talented musicians that sing about stupid stuff that we laughed at when we were 7 years old. I could never understand the huge fanbase that Zappa generates.
edit: The same applies to Weird Al for me, Can't stand him..... making tons of money ruining songs.

Maybe the huge fanbase that he has generated is because he really was a genius, musically speaking. Come on people what albums have you listened by him to "testify" that? I mean, okay, if you heard a good bunch then fine, but if you haven't heard any of his classics it's pretty much absurd to say such things.

I don't think Zappa is quite the musical genius people make him out to be either. He did some good work, but a lot of it sounds fairly similar, and I'll never understand what's so great about the Inca Roads solo.

I really can't get into the most of prog-metal, but I am trying to listen to many of the more common bands on Spotify so I at least can say tried :) I guess I am just too old for this kind of music :)

This thread is not going to end well...

There are many bands I dislike, including big ones, but there's one band that deserves a special place in the very special section of my heart called hatred.

People say you should show a respect for musicians, but I can't. They grabbed their guitars and formed a band. Big deal. The emptiest, unimaginative boredom. I feel sick because I'm a member of the same set as them, called human race. I want them dissolved from the surface of this planet, but that won't help because they existed and contaminated the history.

I'm not going to tell--it will offense the hell out of the people who are, for reasons unknown to me, fans of a particular band.

Let me ask you something -  did you link to that band's homepage in your previous post, and the link didn't work?

For God's sake, I didn't. There are fans of that band on PA, I don't want to offend them - my initial post was quite harsh.

You may ask, why the hell I ranted in this thread at first place? I just wanted to illustrate that we, music fans on this forum as a whole, love music and perceive it deeply - and the feeling of moving, happiness, experience and whatnot while listening to your favourites could be also reversed if you discover something you utterly dislike.Dead

Hmm, Firefox showed me the name of familiar page loading when I was reading your post for the first time. Nothing came up eventually, no image, no vid... but there's no sign of it now.
