I do love (almost) all things Altr0ck. Good to hear about Vehicle as well. Plan to order that one soon.

Also, that Kurai album write up on wayside seemed interesting. Please report back after listening to it. Smile

And haven't heard Blast's new one either btw.

I just wanted to report the death of Pocket Orchestra's drummer Bob Stearman yesterday (16th).  I listened to Knebnegauje as a tribute to him yesterday.  A sad loss.

Apparently he suffered from a stroke some years back too. Cry

I own Vehicle (miRthkon) and can attest to its greatness!  buy this one if you enjoy your RIO with some heavy, complex guitars!  Outstanding!

I'm so bummed that I missed the CD release party! I found out about it directly after it's happening! D:<

BTW, I posted this in the Post-Rock/Metal thread but it would be just as at home here. These are some shots I took during Kayo Dot and Secret Chiefs 3 at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco on 6/10/09.

I got an email back from Mia saying that she loved them and that she posted them on her Facebook profile hahaha

Not good. Not good at all. The human race needs to perfect immortality already.

RIP Bob Stearman. I shall play that album soon.

Thanks Hattie.  I think you're the first to comment about it on here.  Pocket Orchestra are a very unknown chamber prog band, so I don't expect many people to know about them.

The album is amazing though and is one of my favourites of that type of chamber prog.

Jake, excellent photos. Clap

I'm really enjoying it.

It's definitely a grower.   I didn't think much of it on first listen, but it has now become my favourite of theirs.

It's a more mature album.  Rather than trying to bamboozle the listener with flashy transitions as they did in the past,  they go for a more meditative, understated approach this time around.    The subtleties, textures and trance-like quality of the music become more apparent and pleasing with each listen.  There are plenty of fiery passages as well, but they seem more integrated and the whole thing flows really well.

Fantastic playing and production, as you would expect.   I'm kind of addicted to it at the moment.

Not reading the Thread at all I just kinda jump in here...

I must say I kind of lost it with Miriodor after their second self titled album that I think was amazing. It think the tension from that album kinda got downplayed on the following albums. I haven't heard the new one though, I guess I have to give it a listen.

I'm one of those who haven't been able to get into their earlier albums, but love their stuff from Jonglais onwards.     It is like two completely different bands.    That fugue-like, flowing style of recent years really hits the spot with me.

OK guys, I hate music again. What is the most dissonant, abrasive music you think of besides Brotzmann, Zorn, and Penderecki?

Try some Iancu Dumitrescu.  I've heard Pierres Sacrees/Harryphonies/Grand Ourse and I find it very difficult to listen to.  It's electro-acoustic classical music but it really just sounds like noise.

It could well be your thing.

Oh yeah, I remember assaf pushing Iancu. I don't think I made it through the AGP piece I downloaded either, but I'll have to try again now that the radio has pushed me over the edge on melody again.

I should have said dissonant, but not like Merzbow is dissonant. :P

I've not heard that AGP piece you speak of, so it maybe more listenable than what I heard.

I thought I downloaded it from AGP, but it's entirely possible I imagined that.

I'm assuming you've heard Die Like a Die Quartet? Chances are if you like Brotzmann you'll like this, considering he is part of the quartet.

Other than that check out 高柳昌行's Complete "La Grima" or maybe some of his work with 阿部薫 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqjL1Td_niQ

Hi Cleo,

I'll be getting Neom (and the newly reissued Shub Niggurath) in my next order at Wayside. Wanted to do that already as it came out but couldn't (not enough funds available, etc. you know the story).
And the new Miriodor is indeed great, enjoying it a lot. Quite different than previous efforts.

There are 3 interesting and cool releases from Altr0ck which I mentioned earlier in this thread which you will like:
miRthkon, Kurai and Simon Steensland.

Het Assaf! How are you?
I just got the SN also - I had the cdr before, but this is niiice to have indeed. :) Also just ordered the Steensland and the new Yugen [etc etc ;)] from Wayside - waiting w/ bated breath...;).

BTW, if you can find a total of over $40. of titles you want from ZNR [http://www.znrcds.com/], the shipping is free! And Steve there [the owner] is a really, really nice and helpful guy! I ordered the above from him, the new Deus et Machina too, and some Gatto Marte [both VG!]

Anyone going to see VDGG in NY tonight?

Be well -
Cleo
