Bartok and Rachmaninoff are two of my favorite classical composers. My favorite is still Dvorak.

I had to choose, as a modern study, between Rachmaninoff and Scriabin. I was surprisingly underwhelmed by Scriabin. I'm torn between Dvorak. He wrote one of the best symphonies ever, he wrote one of my favourite Piano Quintets, but he didn't write me a Piano Concerto. ![]() ![]() I don't work with favourites. When Chopin sounds masterliness when you're a child, then Schubert sounds masterliness when you're 13, then Debussy sounds beyond masterliness when you're 16, and now finally Brahms sounds masterliness too (along Mahler and Bruckner, in the symphonic department), you can quit this smoking habit called "having favourites". I have really gotten into Brahms lately. It started with the song in There Will Be Blood, and the fourth symphony and piano quintet are unbelievable. Edited by Henry Plainview - June 15 2009 at 15:19 |

Are any of you guys familiar with The Marcus Strickland Trio? http://www.marcusstrickland.com/ He'll be playing a concert up in Traverse City while I am there on vacation and I am thinking of attending, however, I am not familiar with him.

That's the third part of the Violin Concerto, with Anne-Sophie Mutter and Karajan. Or at least I hate calling it a song. ![]() Yes, Brahms has thousand ways of telling you he was an incredible composer. His variations are pinnacles of the genre and superb. As a pianist, I'm only having a harder time with his Sonatas. The University Orchestra tried to play the First Symphony a month ago, they totally dismantled it. |

Yeah, I know I shouldn't call it a song, but I couldn't remember what it was and I was too lazy to look it up.

There you have it then. Great end credits "song" (as if the end itself didn't leave me with my mouth wide open).

Breadfan - One of the greatest metal riffs ever. And I might not have otherwise heard it if Metallica hadn't covered it on Garage Days.

I realize how bored I am with ELP in light of all the prog I have accumulated over the years.
![]() Still love Tarkus and Karn Evil 9 though. |

I don't listen to ELP all that often any more, but I really don't get all of the hate that they get on here. Different strokes for different folks and all that jazz.

Thanks. I was think of doing a poll with 5 or 10 possible new avatars, but decided to stick with the sports. I miss the Stanley Cup though.
Great news that the training session went well. Best wishes on getting the job.
