Well, 10 pages.

I was mildly interested in this band after seeing them appear here and looking at a few reviews.  But after this lengthy and rambling thread, I'm REALLY interested to see what all the fuss (pro and con) is about.

So the latest is a good place to start then?

The latest and the Crane Wife. Smile

Same here - I will definitely make the latest my next purchase, if only out of sheer curiousity.

You were born in 1988, and you are saying there is no worthwhile music post '89. So since you've been born there have been no good new bands?

Thats a bit weird isn't it?

What happened when you were a 2 yr old thaty caused so much damage ?

The qualitative elements of post-89 sounds and the villains that craft them are part of a world that has nothing to do with the pre-89 era. Pillage and despicable "developments" in sound have ensured that this era is ruled by nothing but smut. Only qualified pre-89 artists have the right to produce music, for they come from a better age and bring their talents to the fore (Talents which are unattainable to modern deceivers). So go ahead, consume the lies of the decemberists and the mars volta and opeth or whatever other chicanery you wish to imbibe... just know that every time you follow these demagogues, you're neglecting a pre-1989 artist and his/her masterpieces.

Actually, he is indeed trolling. It's just that he's so closed-minded that he doesn't realize he's trolling. Wink

And I have to listen to it on the radio at work! So you can see why I'm a little bitter about them. ;-)

Actually Walter is right (something I thought I'd never say). He used artist as a singular so the pronoun should be singular as well.

'His/her' or 'his or her' are very clumsy ways of circumventing problems with gender in pronouns though. Enter the plural form, convenient and accepted as an alternative, despite its conflict with the singular form of 'artist'.
And it's logical, too. Walter really means the totality of pre-'89 artists here, not just a single one.

Good call, GregClap! It seems that being told to stop trolling and get the hell out of here didn't work, so perhaps we should just bury him under a ton of ironyWink.

Uh, not true.  Ever heard "You're the Only One Joe" by Ramases?  And that thing even had Godley & Creme helping out on it - imagine how much worse it could have sounded otherwise!

Convenient, but incorrect. You can't modify a singular noun with a plural pronoun. Until gender neutral pronouns become accepted, the best pronoun in this case you be his/her. And you can't blame the original speaker. Walter being illogical, now that's a shock. But he's still grammatically correct.
