Very true - though I'd argue there are a few exceptions (PFM, Camel, Kayak, Magma) . But most of the big names - Genesis, Yes, Van der Graaf - have been underwhelming. The only "dinosaur" that would have me rushing out to buy the album is Camel, and from the looks of things Latimer might be heading back to the studio once he recuperates for a little bit longer. ![]() Edited by Evan - June 14 2009 at 15:39 |

Genesis with PG and SH just because I have no idea what they would come out with, it might not be good, but I'd still like to see it.

It would be fascinating to see which member it sounded most like. You've got a lot of completely independent decades-long musical practice in there- Collins pop solo, Gabriel's neurotic-rock/pop, Hackett's prog and Banks and Rutherfords... well look at their last adventure, Calling All Stations ![]() I think Banks and Hackett would seriously push aside some of the pure pop that might be expected. If Gabriel had agreed to the scheme he would enter with some willingness to cooperate, while Collins, as he has said, is perfectly willing to "just be the drummer" in a reunion. Plus, this wouldn't be a money-oriented album, elsewise they'd have already done it ![]() Pink Floyd is split into two bands, Pros and Cons and About Face, as I like to think. About Face is so derelict its not funny, with Wright gone it has no credibility and only two members. Pros and Cons is a brilliant but lazy band with one member who is getting very, very old. The fusion would be more About Cons than About Pros. |

It is agreat question.....but surely based on genesis's sheer dedication to studio material ( regardless of taste) they win hands down......I would give my left ..... to see another studio release from genesis, even without gabriel

Give me one of the classic hard rock bands from the late 60's/early 70's. Cactus already did it so maybe something from James Gang or Thin Lizzy

Then my vote goes Genesis

Now that you mention it, Stati Di Immaginazione was quite good. |

I don't agree about VdGG; their two albums after the reunion were excellent; I especially love the improvisational disk of "Present" (though I am aware I am pretty alone there), but also the composed songs. At first only "Every Bloody Emperor" and "Nutter Alert" stay in the ear, but now I think that "Abandon Ship!" is the best of them; a fantastic song and an amazing self-ironical statement. The staggering rhythm as the "heptagenarians" get behind their desks really makes me laugh. I don't agree about Camel either, but they never have been overwhelming for me in the first place. They lack the necessary bite for me. |

A new Genesis album from the classic lineup would be a deception, I foretell: it will feel like getting Liebfraumilch when you expect Château d'Yquem. Exit Genesis.
On a new Pink Floyd album Richard Wright will be sorely missed. Exit Pink Floyd. I would be surprised if ELP would sound as inspired as they did in the first half of the 70's, or if a new Alan Parsons Project album would be worth a listen. Camel has the ability to produce reliable symphonic prog throughout the years, but they released a studio album in 2002. Maybe Comus, Gryphon or Led Zeppelin would give us some surprise, but I tend to expect more from more recent bands, so I don't give a vote... Edited by someone_else - June 15 2009 at 07:33 |

They reunited for a reunion gig: http://www.gaudela.net/gryphon/ and there was talk of a new album. http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=56983 And taken from wikipedia:
http://www.myspace.com/gryphonreinstated I would've loved to go to the concert. I wonder what happened with the album? Edited by Logan - June 15 2009 at 09:46 |

I don't know why Stati di Immaginazione did so little for me -- too ambient for me perhaps? I preferred Dracula Opera Rock. |

Matter of taste, of course, and I shouldn't expect it, but is there no Gentle Giant that you like? I would have thought that there would be some appeal, particularly with Three Friends. Does this have no good effect? Edited by Logan - June 15 2009 at 11:31 |
