Yeah GFE is an excellent band.
I saw Kayo Dot with Secret Chiefs 3 on Wednesday and my god was Kayo Dot incredible live. They only played three songs which amounted to about an hour worth of music yet it only felt like 5 minutes... I had a long and interesting conversation with Toby Driver about Lucid Dreaming, Art, and Music. I took pictures of both bands and I'll post them eventually... Jake |

Anyone been to Maps & Atlases myspace lately? They got some pretty jammin new pieces up; it seems that they haven't abandoned the style they utilized on their first album that i liked so much.
Hey! What about Secret Chiefs 3? |

They were great too. It was a stripped down version of them, though, so it wasn't quite the full effect.

Was Shahzad Ismaily (tall dude) with them? I know he's part of the band "2 Foot Yard" now; i'm just curious if he's still playing live shows with SC3.

Alrighty dudes, here's the reason why I've been hardly posting lately:
http://www.myspace.com/amonogrammadeofashes If y'all got myspace pages, add me. So far I don't have any songs up yet obviously, but I'll post a demoish type track within a few weeks most likely. Basically, I'm going to be temporarily leaving the Progressive Metal Team for a while to work on this. I don't expect to break any new ground with this project, but my main aim is hopefully to try to combine all my influences as well as my own style in a way that hopefully that it at least has enough unique elements that people can dig. I notice not a lot of bands use 7 strings, so another aim of mine was also to incorporate the 7th string into the song writing process to add some more flavor to the sound. When the song writing, recording, mixing/mastering/production and art work (not done by me but by a friend since I can't draw/paint/use photoshop for sh*t) is all done, I'll find a way to make this available for you dudes to purchase via Paypal or something like that. It's a strange turn for me in a way, because I had my roots playing Black Sabbath and thrash/death metal stuff on guitar, but over time I just noticed my playing starting to take on elements of post hardcore, post rock and post metal, so I feel this project is kinda where my head is at right now musically. Dude... I'm jelous! I'd love to start a project of my own, but I dont have the equipment available to do so.
Sadly the seven string guitar gets a pretty bad rap around here. Not too sure why, really I just find it a convenience, I payed my old guitar teacher forty bucks to set my six string to drop B...

Ah, thank you. And yes, oh Mia... <3 She's even more beautiful in person. It's funny because my freind was able to convince his freind Jeremy to come to the show because of Mia, not the music. :P He was too shy to talk to her though. XD

To be fair, half the sh*t I have is because good luck came my way, I'm not rich or anything haha. My sister works at Ableton, in Germany, so I got a copy of Ableton Live 8.0 Suite recording software worth 899 USD for free. Her boyfriend also left behind some studio monitors for me to borrow for the next 2 years for mixing purposes. My recording interface I scored for under half the brand new price. It was used, but the previous owner barely used it and when I received it, it was in almost brand new condition yet I got such an insanely good deal on it. My 7 string guitar I got used as well and was lucky to get a good deal on that as well. Seriously, all you need is a cheap guitar interface, and you don't even need to spend much on recording software, you can start making stuff too. Honestly, I don't like tuning guitars down at all, except for doing drop D (on six strings) and drop A (on seven strings), because when you do that, what you gain in lower range you lose in higher range. Half the reason why I bought a 7 string because it's the best of both worlds, the lower range while keeping the same range as a 6 string. 7 strings get hate because it's viewed as the nu metal guitar. Which is idiotic because not only were some of the nu metal guitarists actually quite skilled (Wes Borland from Limp Bizkit is actually just about a virtuoso when it comes to two hand tapping and he actually has a very good knowledge of chord theory and using much more complex chords than power chords, as one example), but a lot of nu metal bands didn't even use 7 string guitars, they just used down tuned 6 strings. Linkin Park's debut album was almost all 6 string guitars, except for 2 songs and they didn't even tune that low anyway. Their second album was all 6 strings. The Deftones used 6 strings for their first 2 albums I believe. So the theory that "all" nu metal bands and recordings used 7 strings is full of sh*t, it's just crap made up by ignorant retards. I've heard all sorts of various bullsh*t like "I CAN BARELY PLAY 6 STRINGS, HOW CAN YOU PLAY 7?!" "IT'S A NU METAL GUITAR!" "WHY NOT JUST TUNE YOUR 7 STRING GUITAR DOWN TO B?" Idiots, the lot of 'em. It's just a guitar, not a totally different instrument. f**k the haters, because I'm gonna make some music with my 7 string and ultimately if people enjoy the music, that is what matters, it doesn't matter if it was made on a 6 string, an 8 string, an 11 string or whatever. It's all tools for making MUSIC. |
