Okay, most likely not. But still, when I heard a BB song for the first time the other day on Pandora, I just couldn't help but think to myself on more than a few parts, "that sounds like something Opeth would do." Not in that it was metal sounding, but it had that heavy sort of dark sound. And hell, maybe they do like Opeth, seeing as both bands are from Sweden. I wish I took note of the song so I could hear it again. Me and my dad thought for sure BB was a band he missed from the 70s . . . not saying that is bad or anything, just that they sound pretty retro. Digging what I hear from them though, may need to buy one of thier albums.

Sorry about the stream-of-conciousness rant there. Just gotta let it flow sometime.

If that's the case then I must give Black Bonzo a listen.

You'll have to give some of their songs a listen. I could be way off here, but it just reminded me of Opeth.

Definitely no growls with Black Bonzo.  In my opinion, their best song is the title song from their Song of the Apocalypse album.  This song is quite progressive.  The rest of the album sounds more Deep Purplish to me.

I meant the melody of the song, not the vocals . . .

I have the first BB albums, and although one can spot dozens of influences, Opeth is definitly not one that comes to my mind. Any "dark sound" they display will have come either from Floyd or KC, depending on the song.
Bigger on the inside.
