Alex: Dad, Decemberists ftw!
Tom: son, what have I told you about loving music so quickly?
Alex: I don't remember dad, I just know this music kicks arse!
Tom: son, you'll grow out of them one day
Alex: I won't!  The Decemberists are amazing.  The Crane Wife man, wow!  I'll hang my head!
Tom: Alex, you did this with that Animal Collective band... they suck but have less talent than The Beatles
Alex: no, don't say that Dad, please!  You know I think the Beatles are talentless!
Tom: I will not allow you to say that in this house!
Alex: but Dad!
Tom: go to your room and take this with you *passes him a copy of Abbey Road* and don't come out until you have changed your mind!
Alex: but Dad...

I actually offered for my dad to go too, if he wants to. I think he'd like it.

He's the one that introduced me to: Rush, ELO, Supertramp, Yes, Genesis, Jethro Tull, Styx, Kansas, Boston, etc. Smile

My dad hates the Beatles more than I do. LOL

My mom's the one that likes them. And she likes disco and pop. Nice try. Wink

My dad doesn't really care for VDGG. Then again, he doesn't really care for ELP, Magma, or others like that either.

The only things that he's hated that I showed him were Soft Machine (Facelift), Mr. Bungle (Techno Allah), and Meshuggah (every song ever LOL).

He likes alot of the stuff I do though, just not the weirder prog typically.

Except Hammill mumbles for three minutes, then the whole thing is repeated with band music on top (and the instrumental is nothing special whatsoever), and then it ends in mumbling again.

 Cold. Weak.

He clearly gave you the gene of not being capable to understand VdGG.

They're just a heaven's distance above the ground and its mortals, that's all.

Quite the opposite.

Strong.  Powerful.  Hot.  Wet.  Eargasmic.  Masterliness.

VdGG have never been about solos or instrumental passages really.  Still Life is just epic in every way.  It's my favourite track from Still Life.  I love Pilgrims a lot too though.  My Room (Waiting in Wonderland) is also epic.  La Rossa is the weakest yet still epic.

See, I don't see the amazingness of Pawn Hearts as much as everyone else (besides Alex).  I mean, Man-Erg is the best tune ever released by any band ever.  Lemmings is also amazing but Lighthouse... it's just not as wonderful as I'd like it to be yet still wonderful in its own right.
