Agree 100% with you on the top 3.

Rothery would be 4th for me.

Mind you, Mike Nicholls and Bryan Josh run any of them close, especially if you have heard Frequency and Glass Shadows.

Voted for Howe, was disapointed by the lack of HIllage though!

Impossible to choose really, but I can never pass on the opportunity to vote for the man responsible for the hair curling solos in The Great Escape & Neverland.

Roman Bunka of Embryo, Aera, RoRo and solo gets my vote. Here threeo videos to show why:

Also note the excellent drums of Christian Burchard in the first two videos. He is not in my top five drummers for nothing.

The guitar work has never really stood out for me when I have listened to King Crimson.  I enjoy them more for their drums and percussion, the mellotron, the use of the violins and viola and the sax.  I know that Fripp also played the mellotron and he is known for his Frippertronics.  I don't really know what the Frippertronics are though so I am not sure what he is or is not doing musically on the album.  I really need to see a live KC video to check him out.

Steve Hillage started out with the bands Arzachel and Khan, which made one album each, and is best known for his work with Gong and his solo work. He also guested on albums of Clearlight, Nik Turner and Egg and now plays with System 5.

No Gary Greene?

John McLaughlin would probably class as my favourite 'prog' guitarist, if I had to pick one, but I'm not really a guitar person, and I think that originality/eclecticism is maybe a bit more important than solo-berkery (Peter Hammill would thus qualify as one of my 'favourite' guitarists, though certainly not the 'best'). Oh, and Mike Oldfield, I really like his guitar-work. Oh, and 10cc are collectively great. And John(?) Cann of Atomic Rooster, while a lousy singer, is pretty good... Gary Moore (who played with Colosseum II, among others) is a favourite, as well... and so on and so forth.

yeah, I don't really fuss about guitarists, Knopfler and Hendrix would be my two favourites, and after that it's a jumble.

I could list dozens of guitar players I like. Hillage is definitely one of them.

I love all these guys dearly, so I couldn't come close to a decision that wouldn't change by tomorrow.

I guess I'll go with Rabin, who only has one vote right now.
