Oh it's not your fault, Cleo.

I ordered too much in one go.

Studio Zund wasn't sufficient... so I had to add more to the order! Embarrassed

They've got Studio Zund in HMV on Oxford Street. £65. I've got all the studio albums anyway, and they're not even remastered. Somehow I don't think that will stop me from getting it.

It would have been cheaper for me to have gone to Oxford Street in retrospect. LOL

Oh well.

Sometimes it is indeed advantageous to live in London.

There's no real comparisons musically i think, but Orchids' drummer David Bodie is now in Kayo Dot. Time Of Orchids are pretty a heavily RIO influenced kind of math-rock band, with wonderful vocal harmonies and some pretty awesome Ruins-ish bass playing. To be fair they're pretty hard to describe so I'd reccomend you and everyone else check them out if you haven't already...

no problema! actually i just found all of the albums by the artist Ne Zhdali freely available on their website. they're listed in the archives here

Here's the link to their albums:
http://nz.tpt.edu.ee/music/Ne%20Zhdali/

I've only listened to "Whatever Happens, Twist", but so far they are quite awesome. They've definitely taken pointers from Henry Cow. Check it out. The tracks Air-Ground and Bossa 2000 Turbo are not to be missed!

SolariS, whilst you're on their site, check out the albums by Leonid Soybelman, Les Halmas and Kletka Red.  You won't be disappointed.

All are free and legal to download from their site.  Les Halmas' albums can be found under Komarov whilst Kletka Red are under Soybelman.

Thanks. I'm not able to download tracks right now but I can listen on the computer so it's OK.
For now, and perhaps because I'm french, I stopped on "Ma vie", I really like the atmosphere on this track,  and the kind of philosophy : "why? (..) because this is life, it's like it, always". Perhaps I just need this now, I'm still really affected by Hugh Hopper's death.
I will listen to the other albums later and will look for James' suggestions too.
Olivier.

Welcome, Olivier. That reminds me, I've been meaning to pick up the Outre Mesure album, the samples intrigued me.

Ah, 'tis been so long since I've listened to Ne Zhdali. I remember discovering this band while I was in Estonia (06), in some dingy basement record shop which smelled suspiciously like hashish. There was some band jamming out back, I'm now wondering if it was them. Might spin a disc for old times sake, any recommendation for which one I should play?

I'll never understand buying an album more than once. The only time I have ever done that is when I realized I accidentally bought the non-remastered version of Free Jazz, but that's becuase the non-remaster was only $8. But then again I don't get Magma either.

Thanks - I'll try to listen to it in the next few days (life being a tad hectic at the moment).

I've also bookmarked the site - lots of interesting stuff, all of it free.

Thanks Udi - I was lucky enough to see that particular line up twice and they were a joy to behold. A sad loss indeed.

Got a bunch of promos and three of them are from the Altr0ck label:
miRthkon - Vehicle (a band which should have been added to Avant-rock here)
Simon Steensland - Fat Again
Kurai - s/t

Having listened to miRthkon only so far I have to say: Bloody brilliant.
Have a feeling it will be a personal favourite and that it'll be in my 2009 best list. Intricate but in an attractive and seductive way. Great tunes, finely conceived and played, a good balance of harsh and delicate. Fabulous. This and Cheer Accident's album are fantastic releases in this "realm" of music. This will also appeal to jazz-rock fans.

And bumping this:
