Bill Ward, you dolts. Angry

Sure, but Black Sabbath are hardly metal, though. Heavy Metal is a subgenre of rock (despite the name).

Lolwut?

Heavy Metal is a subgenre of hard rock, which is a subgenre of rock. 'Heavy Metal', besides referring specifically to traditional metal, can also be used as an umbrella term for all forms of metal, with the possible exception of the later "extreme" metals (thrash, black, death, supposedly doom). Stylistically, however, I'm pretty sure that all metals are evolved forms of hard rock.

God I'm a nerd.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_sabbath
Check what it says in "genre" on the right.
Then click that link and read the first sentence.
Just going after what wiki says.
