I think that Death Metal is pretty atrocious, but I wouldn't say it was talentless.

I've had my say before, and don't think there is any point in repeating what I said. I just have to wonder why we don't seem to be able to discuss things without slipping into negativity, in one way or the other  .

There was actually a suspicious smiley that was supposed to go with my comment about death metal. It didn't show up.
But it doesn't matter. I listen to almost everything. But there's a few musical genres I have no respect for (for more than one reason). Death metal is one of them. So-called gangsta rap is another one.

I don't think that there is any shock that I don't like death metal. It ruined Sesame Street for me. 
Today has actually been almost entirely music free. Song for America is playing in the automobile and I heard the first 3 songs before arriving at work. Since then it has been a sports radio day for me. Go Wings!!!!!

My almost 2 year old son and I watched a Yes DVD and after his nap, we listened to A Farewell to Kings, but other than that, it's been Blue's Clues here.

Personally, I am no fan of death metal, and I understand your reasons all too well (I spent the best part of two years losing people I cared for). However, I would not say it is 'talentless' - unless we have two very differing views of talent.

I think that bubble gum pop takes the least amount of talent (or at least takes talents that I am least interested in), but as far as singing voice and dancing skills go, Britney Spears has more music talent in her little pinky (or would it be in her ta-tas) than I have. Although that seriously doesn't say much.

Bubble gum pop could either prove full of talent or not. Singing and dancing DOES require energy, time, practice, and talent (although I believe many of these stars lip-synch anyway. American Idol does during group performances).
Rapping, however, is a parlor trick (as I used to demonstrate to my students). It requires almost no practice or dedication. That doesn't mean it can't be amazing (Rap focuses on lyrics, so writing good lyrics is the skill there, not rapping itself).

Aside from the heavy bass of passing cars, I have managed to pretty much avoid rap since the days of Run D-M-C, Ice T, Tone Loc, and LL Cool J. It was a genre that didn't impress me early on and I have essentially ignored it since then. I hardly have a clue on what it does or doesn't sound like these days.

Check out The Carnival by Wyclef Jean. It's prog rap, if such a thing makes sense.

? I just looked up the song Carnival from Wyclef Jean on YouTube and it was quite Reggae. I assumed you were referring to that song. Were you referring to an album?
