Liszt's piano concerto no. 1 is fantastic, in spite of my customary loathing of orchestras.

Oh Well, anyways, I've been listening to Hazards of Love again and again, it's really, really good. Just like The Snow Goose(sorry for comparing with Camel!) and maybe some others, it works as a entire 58 minutes piece, and not seperate, few albums can do that so well! BTW: just woke up from my 3 hour nap(siesta) |

You aren't seeing them in VA? I just checked Ticketmaster and the VA show has passed...unless I am mistaken. |

You should get The Crane Wife and Castaways and Cutouts. The former has some of the best prog music from them, and the latter has some of their best lyrics. See my reviews if you have not. |

Good. I just bought some Dogfish IPAs. I also decided I'm going to concentrate on finishing a few half-written novels I have around here. I've written two complete ones already (one is semi-sci-fi commentary on society a la 1984) and the other is a gushy supernatural romance. I honestly have about five novels at the halfway mark or close to it. I think it's time to get those done, find an agent, get them sold, and live like a king. |

What's (a) Dogfish IPAs? Hope you don't need to be drunk this time to write Well, I was a bit last night I fell asleep in the party for some minutes Then I danced a bit with a nice girl, though then she left Anyways, good luck with those novels! Yeah I've read them, pretty high ratings don't you think? Oddly enough, the CD shop only had Hazards of Love from The Decemberists, I think they're just importing new releases, from somewhat-well-known bands. However, if I ever see any of those, I will buy them, no doubt about that! |

Myself and I, mainly... recording was by Georges Cziffra and the Orchestre de Paris. I don't really loathe orchestras, I just don't always get what they're doing (Stravinsky would probably be my favourite orchestral arranger), and I don't like the best-known composers (by which I mean, Beethoven, Mozart and Tchaikovsky (though there's this one part of Swan Lake that is soooo pretty)) when they're working with orchestras as much as I do when they're writing for smaller groups. And piano trios are probably my favourite classical format. Because I love pianos far too much relative to my ability to play them. And the other three pieces on this one - Totentanz (paraphrase on the 'Dies Irae'), Piano Concerto no. 2 in A and Hungarian Fantasy (which I'd already heard a few times) were also gorgeous. Yeah, my classical knowledge is still tiny, but I'm only really just beginning to begin to understand how much people get out of these pieces emotionally. Rachmaninov in particular (this also rounds off the pretentious circle of progressive rock, jazz and classical) Edited by TGM: Orb - June 06 2009 at 16:38 |

Was only asking which pianist and orchestra was playing, not if you were listening with someone or alone. Cziffra, nice! Don't really know what to say to that "don't know what [orchestras] are doing", but I pretty much guess you don't like music on epic scale as much as chamber and soloistic music. I'm love symphonies myself, especially the grueling complex ones, up to Mahler and the post-romantics, and I'd delve into more from the great orchestrators, plus the moderns. |

I would do it now; only I gave people until tomorrow to finish all of the quizzes 1-5. However, it's not really that big of a deal, as I could still give them until tomorrow to finish the others and still put up the new one today. It just depends on whether I feel like putting it up now or tomorrow morning, and what other people think. |

Seconded. At this point though, the scores are stunning. Anyone in the top 10 could easily win, or possibly even anyone at all. |
