Terminator Salvation- saw this in the theater...could have waited for a rental.  Not much to say, other than it was basically a predictable rehash of previous themes;  where is the dividing line between man and machine; and further what makes us human?  This idea has been approached much more eloquently in other films (A.I., Bladerunner, for starters).  It's not that I dislike the series, it is just that this one did not add much new and the acting was so-so at best.  We actually laughed out loud at some of the lines and some of the scenes.  I guess it may be worth a cursory viewing if you are a fan of the series.... I have a feeling even the recent TV series is better than this.  Some cool Monolithic robotics scenes (and the predictable "heartwrenchingly sentimental" ending), otherwise, this one sort of fell flat... 4.5/10

Stark Trek
What a movie! I have seen the first season of TOS and casually know the Star Trek universe. This movie had enough easter eggs to tickle me. It's really just a fun movie filled with a good deal of action and humor. It's a great summer movie that's easily accessible and will most likely have you feeling satisfied afterwards. 8/10

Up
See this movie! Pardon the disjointedness of this but I simply don't know where to start. Pixar has outdone theirselves with this. "Up" is now my favorite Pixar movie hands down. This movie is filled with humor and heart. If you don't cry (or at least have tears well up) at least once during "Up" then I will doubt the existence of your soul. The animation is, of course, superb. There was this one scene early on when the house is leaving the city. You see the house float by from inside a room in some skyscraper and the light passes through the balloons onto the wall of the room. My jaw dropped in sheer amazement. I saw this in a theater with a few little children and it seemed as though my friends and I were having a better time than the children. 10/10 regardless of age
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal.

I don't think it warrants repeat viewings, but I think you should see it for yourself to judge for yourself.... Of course the ending sets it up for a followup movie!  I don't know if that is a good sign or not.

Perfume:The story of a murderer. 8/10. A very dark and bleak look at 18th century France and one man's quest to bottle the scent of a woman. Great all-star cast.

Paul Blart- Mall Cop;  predictable feel-good comedy that actually raised my spirits and made me laugh a few times- 6.5/10

Outlander- Beowulf meets predator... cool viking era meshed with scifi.  Not too original, but that doesn't detract from the coolness factor.... 7/10

The Hangover- comedic yarn about a bachelor party blackout... f**kING HILARIOUS.... I laughed consistently throughout the entire movie.... in fact at one point I laughed so hard I was crying...

9/10

Just finished watching Altered States (1980- William Hurt).... for the second time, although it has been years... and in the interim I have had time to investigate the role of hallucinogenic substances in conjunction with ritual practice... casual research mostly... but I must say, I am blown away by this movie.  Its special effects still hold up today.  Very well done visually, and the story is astounding as well.  intellectually stimulating dialogue, happenstance and wrap-up.  Simply awesome.  Might be my all time favorite movie....

10/10

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080360/

not everyone liked it as much as I, but I think it tries to answer those nagging questions that man faces anthropologically, scientifically, and philosophically... very intense!  Right on the same wavelength as me.

I saw Drag Me To Hell yesterday with a buddy and it was absolutely the worst movie I've ever seen. It was completely predictable and we were even laughing at some parts that were meant to be disturbing. The horror movie genre isn't the best in mainstream theaters, but it was pretty laughable. There wasn't anyone else in the theater though, so we were able to talk to each other and watch the whole thing and laugh loudly at it.

At least I saw Up and the Hangover recently, which were both worth seeing.

The movie I've seen most recently for the first time was The Third Man.  All I can say is...WOW!!!!!  That movie is so incredible, and the zither music is so unusual.  I can't wait to re-watch it once I understand German, I'm curious what's being said by the landlady and other characters.

I saw a couple of the Sean Connery James Bond movies again recently too, You Only Live Twice and Diamonds are Forever.  The Bond movies are always fun.

The Hangover - I watched the review of this on "At The Movies." I almost always agree with Ben Mankiewicz and will go into a movie with a mindset almost entirely based on what this guy says. So when he said "The Hangover" wasn't your standard frat boy movie and was actually quite intelligent, I set my standards too high. I'm pretty sure I laughed fewer than five times and only once was the laugh not caused by Zach Galifianakis. There wasn't any intelligent humor to be found in here. Although to the movie's credit, it did end in a believable way. I give this movie a 6/10 and only recommend it because I am the only person I know who didn't like it.

Just saw the new Star Trek movie. A bit overdramatic, but quite entertaining. Certainly better than I expected. Winona was amazing in her short role.

I always get addicted to Shawshank from time to time. I think I've watched it 4 times in the last week. Time for a break I would say...

Saw The Hangover in theaters...a great comedy I'd give it 7/10. The same could not be said about Land of the Lost. Stay away, inargurably Ferrel's worst 2/10.

You and I are the only people on the planet who didn't think it was the greatest movie ever made.
