Topic: Actor/Actress/Director Completionist Posted: June 05 2009 at 13:56 |
As prog fans, there are many of us who are completionists when it comes to some or all of our favorite prog artists. I am curious as to how this translates to the movie industry. Are there any actors or actresses for which you have seen every movie that they have appeared in, or intend on seeing every movie that they have appeared in? Does this translate better if the question applies to directors, instead of actors or actresses? I know from other threads that there are certain directors that have pretty good followings here. What actors/actresses/directors are you a completionist about?

For me? No. There are many movies that I will want to see because of who is in it or who directs it, but I'm no completionist when it comes to movies.
Now my wife, on the other hand, has to see everything Dakota Fanning farts on.

There are several directors whose movies I enjoy so much that I have
seen or intend to see all of them. The first ones that come to mind:
Tarkovsky, Kurosawa, Godard, Truffaut, (Aki) Kaurismäki, Kubrick,
Polanski, Scorsese, Lynch, Cronenberg, Trier, Herzog.
As for actors and actresses, I can only think of a few: Jean-Pierre
Léaud, James Dean, Klaus Kinski, Ben Gazzara, Audrey Hepburn, Julie
Delpy, Naomi Watts, and, as some of you may have guessed, Winona Ryder.

I, for one, would have never guess that.

She's awesome in the new Star Trek movie. Makes me realize how old I am.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

^ I can't wait to see it. Just when I thought Winona was as awesome as
one could possibly get, I suddenly found out that she's Spock's mother.
Spock's mother! How cool is that? (Very, very, very cool.)

She's eerily beautiful with wrinkles. At the same time, several of my family members didn't even recognize her.

Tim Burton.
I was going to say Terry Gilliam but I just remembered I still haven't seen Fear and Loathing.

without ruining things for those who've not seen it, what occurs with Spock's mother is an impossibility if there's a consistent timeline for Star Trek..unless we're suppose to assume none of it actually happened, and that goes for several other events in the film that have not occurred in the regular ST universe
as to the question: Woody Allen, George Lucas

That's funny because I heard she was going to be in it as Spock's mom but it never registered with me that it was her when I saw it. Jennifer Morrison on the other hand... When it comes to directors, pretty much any thing by David Lynch. But actors and actress completionist, no one in particular comes to mind.

I'm sure it was a deliberate ploy on the part of the script writers to prevent Trekkies from spotting continuity errors between the film and the original TV series.

Me either - Tideland was pretty bizarre in a good way, though! Kubrick and Burton for me, although Michel Gondrey is another one who I'm starting to have more and more by. Actors... no, never

No, a serious comment - the ST cannon is so huge now that few can know all the finer details of the entire ST history from the present day to the 26th century (if you include all the novels and comics), but the combined legion of Trekkers and Trekkies will know everything, so if a script writer, however well versed in ST knowledge makes an error, then someone will spot it. The latest film wipes the slate clean for subsequent films to do whatever they wish without message boards lighting up like a christmas tree.

There are many directors I like very much, but it is not so easy to see all of their movies; especially earlier ones are sometimes hard to get. As to actors /actresses. I have seen most movies with Catherine Deneuve and Hanna Schygulla, two of my favourite actresses. And I have seen all of the big Chaplin movies, of which "The Kid" was the first. There are many actresses I really like: Charlotte Rampling, Geraldine Chaplin (both have a somewhat cruel touch around the mouth, something which curiously attracts me), Sigourney Weaver, Jeanne Moreau (she has that cruel touch too; come to think of it, Weaver also has it, though it is more hidden with her. ).

That's his best one since Brazil! My complete or almost complete directors: Tarkovsky, Fellini (still need to get a couple of his later films), Almodovar, Woody Allen, Lucian Pintilie, Lars von Trier, Stanley Kubrick, Terry Gilliam. Planning a complete run through for: Bergman, Kurosawa (I've seen more than a handful but he's got a lot), Visconti. Maybe Truffaut and Pasolini?

Peter Weir.
I'm not familiar with his entire filmography, but I will be.

Come to think of it, I may have every Gilliam directed movie on DVD. They're always really good. If you like Gilliam you really do need to get Fear and Loathing. It's really trippy. But then you can pretty much say that about anything he's directed.

^ and the good news is that The Man Who Killed Don Quixote is back in production (at least for the moment).
...and I still want him to do Good Omens.
