A week is, supposedly, a long time in politics. It's somewhat unfortunate that folk seem to be incapable of thinking of some real change from the two-party system... I don't know, maybe Labour are going out for the count, but I think what we need is a system where the alternative to a less-than-optimal Labour party isn't just a less-than-optimal conservative party. And it annoys me that so many non-main party votes are going to the Greens, who really have just one political principle and don't want to represent their constituents, and I can't find a lot of people who seem to have any idea what the alternative parties are standing for, even if they seem to loathe all the main parties... they just don't care enough to do research and seem to hide behind 'well, I can't change anything' if asked about it. How the hell anyone can say it's impossible to vote is beyond me... Can democracy thrive in the face of the typically British chronic sloth, I wonder?
On the plus side, Gladys Kinnock as MP for Europe was an interesting surprise, Jacqui Smith is gone (and about time), and the conservative majority seems to not be shooting out of control and the minor party votes are going up at the expense of Labour, which isn't a bad thing. I wouldn't mind so much if the folks I'd spoken to about it didn't seem so damn wilfully ignorant/naive... yes, Labour messed things up, yes, expenses. On the other hand, calling Labour 'champagne socialists' doesn't change the fact that theoretically the Tories are champagne champagnists, and when it seems impossible that the Tories wouldn't have made the same mistakes and suffered the same misfortunes, I really have to wonder. /rant which non-Brits probably won't understand. |

I'm sure you'll love it, Pablo! There's plenty of Hammond (played by a woman, Jenny Conlee), and the hard rock riffing on some of the tracks (mainly those involving the Forest Queen) will send you into fits of ecstasy!

Track 2 right now, sounds pretty good folk with great double-bass and nice subtle hammond. I was really shocked to see this album in the CD shop!! I mean, there's barely Prog stuff, and much less 2009 Prog stuff!! I saw the cover while peeking the DT albums....haha, ironic somehow.... |

It is a fairy tale, more than a 'concept' (I mean, like Tales from Topographic Oceans), based on a number of folk motifs. It's basically a love story between a girl, Margaret, and William, a young man who is also a shapeshifter (he can turn into a fawn), and the adopted son of the Forest Queen - who is not happy with the thing, and tries her best (or worst?) to thwart the two lovers.

^ah thanks, right now track 7, and yeah track 3 or 4 had some pretty heavy stuff that I wasn't expecting from a Prog FOLK band, haha, still it was pretty good.

I honestly didn't care that much for the Decemberists. They're alright, but only when I'm in the right mood.
Who knows, maybe they'll grow on me. But they're mostly just too boring for me and the main singer's voice is passable. I can see why other people would like them though. |
