Last night we went to The 12 Bar in Swindon to see the second of The Enid's two warm-up gigs before the big Bush Hall come back on Friday.  It's the first time Robert John Godfrey has played live in what must be nearly a decade (I last saw them in the '80s!)  By his own admission he was nervous, but didn't need to have been;  they were well prepared and rehearsed and delivered an absolutely staggering performance.  The sound was amazing and I'm really looking forward to seeing them again on Friday.

Here's a few pics:

...yup; those are kettle drums and Mrs. P had to put the emergency ear plugs in half way through!

As usual full set is on my MySPace page:

I thought I had better have a stab at a set list.

I couldn't see one to grab at the gig so this is all from memory - the order is probably very wrong and there may be a few gaps (if you're reading this and were there or at the Dudley show please let me know any corrections.)

Many - in fact most - of the set were originals re-worked for the new band and, I guess, the instrumentation and technology available to them now; it was a very full sound! I've put the original names where I know them in brackets.

Apocalypse - Judgement Day (Judgement)
Malacandra - The Silent Planet
Riguardon - The Dancing Lizard
Avalon - Under the Summer Stars
Chaldean Crossing - 2009 version
Sheets from the Blue Yonder (Sheets of Blue)
Dark Hydraulic Forces of the Id

Encore
Something Wicked
Wild Thing

I'll pay a bit more attention to the order on Friday at Bush Hall so may make some changes to the above after that!

They are selling a CD of the re-worked songs at the gigs and through the web site. RJG said that anyone buying from the web site would get a signed copy!

Great photo's Neil

I suppose it was too much to ask that they'd play 'Fand' (nice to know he still goes for 'Wild Thing' though )

I was also at the Bush Hall gig last Friday; great gig - superb atmosphere and sound, even if it was stiflingly hot - Bush Hall really need some air con if they want to get taken seriously as a venue....anyway, I digress; the point of my reply is that RJG stated that he was in discussions with Francis Lickerish about doing Fand and some of the other old stuff live.

I decided to give the Bush Hall gig a miss after my disappointment at Robert's revamped line-up a few years back at the Astoria, but Francis Lickerish coming out of retirement could well tempt me back! Would only need Steve Stewart then for the 'Holy Trinity' to be re-united, now that would really be something worth seeing!

Great pics though, Neil and good to see Robert looking so well. Thanks for the warning about the Bush Hall, I'll wear as little as possible for the Stackridge gig there next Thursday!!!
