Not a whole lot. Tripping out to Tago Mago. Let me know what you think of Live in Tokyo, Luke. I'll probably get it eventually but it's not too high on the priority list because of the cost.

Ty, I have high hopes for their new album. New vocalist doesn't sound too bad from what I've heard. He's got a tough job, following up one of the greatest singers in rock history.

Finally finished that stinkin' review. I almost forgot I'd even started it several months back.

Not my favorite by Can, but still pretty damn good. Man, I just cranked out a second review and now I'm finishing up a third one. I guess I'm finally getting back into that kind of mood again.

In case you guys miss the Tech/Extreme thread, check this out. I'm not sure if you guys ever noticed this, but listen to Esoteric
Surgery from The Way Of All Flesh starting at 40 seconds back to back
with the opening riff of Bleed and then listen also to Old Days Born
Anew from Silhouettes (the band in question being Textures) at about
the 4:45ish mark I think, somewhere between 4:30 and 5 minutes anyway I
think. It took me months to even notice it.

I'll check it out after I finish Opeth, Harry. Speaking of which, I think I finished my last non-5 star Opeth review.

I was talking about the guitar parts actually, but yep, same bass drum pattern too. Interestingly enough, I'm able to play that riff at the speed Gojira play it, but the speed at which Meshuggah does it feels like it will give me carpal tunnel syndrome when I try it.

^ Oooh, that IS interesting, makes me appreciate what Meshuggah does all the more.

It's interesting certainly, since there is a point where every single rhythmic pattern has probably been done before since that style of groove metal riffing has been around since the 90s. I guess that's the point where you stop focusing on trying to create "original" riffs because you can't anymore and instead you start focusing on making great compositions, which to my mind is much more interesting than trying to go out of your way to make inventive riffs instead of composing well, because at the end of the day chances are that riff was used already, perhaps at a different speed or different tuning or whatever.
