Also the new Mono was excellent.

There is no questions to be asked. It is Isis and Pelican. That should be enough reason.

Their past few albums have been great, but I haven't heard their latest.

But the thing is, I could also go see Secret Chiefs 3 and Kayo Dot tomorrow.

Go to both!

But I enjoy not being broke.

Man, being broke is temporary situation , u will get over it , but seing Isis,Pelican,Kayo Dot , is bliss from god, experience that  lasts forever .. and ever . in distant future u won't remember that u have been broke for a few days, but that everlasting feeling of fulfillment of joy will prevail .. Anyway  i heard new Gregor SamsaOver Air ..album is full of lo fi tunes , slow , quiet , chillin experience for me , not bad. I heard a good one Gasgiant - An Uncertainty Principle ,excellent Post Rock, in the vein of  Explosions in the Sky , The Calm Blue Sea , Jakob. also i heard Celeste - Misanthrope, Post Metal /Sludge nothing extraordinary , but still good .

I saw Isis/Pelican last night in DC, and I was blown away. I was slightly dissapointed in Pelican though because they sounded real muddy. But Isis played so well. It was definetelly worth the $13 bucks I paid.

Yeah, I was at the DC show too. I was in the front row, and for the size of the venue, the sound was amazing. I agree with you that Pelican was muddy, but it still sounded awesome. The drummer for Tombs was also real good. I was so happy that most of Isis's set was Wavering Radiant.

Anyone hear listen to the new gifts from Enola? I'm on my first listen right now, I'm very happy. Though I cant say I like the rocording quality that much, I love the very aggressive angle they have on post rock.

I also saw this will destroy you last night. One of the more emotional shows I've seen. It was almost a religious experience!

Goddamn Americans. It seems purely for living in Australia you gotta pay more than double what you guys pay for an American band to play here.
I know a few you guys here play instruments, so just wondering if anyone happened to catch what gear Pelican was running for their recent gigs.

Unfortunately i was too far away to recognize anything in particular, (at this point in my life i've deduced that being right at the band members feet makes for horrible sound mixing) but i see that i wasn't the only one to think that they sounded quite muddy and distorted. I'm actually a bit surprised that they haven't resolved the situation by now, considering how many shows they've played so far this tour.

I did notice that Aaron Harris from Isis had a beautiful kit Big smile

Well, you could think of it this way - you'd surely pay 120 bucks or more to see one pop band Smile

True. But I also plan on going to Prog Nation, Van der Graaf Generator, and hopefully the Decemberists. Actually transportation is the major issue. Round trip train tickets are $15 a pop. Cry

^I would say that Isis/Pelican and Kayo Dot are going to be way better than ProgNation this year. Even with Pain of Salvation on board. They won't get a huge set and it'll surely be marred by some Scarsick material.

Gibson guitars, a Pearl drum kit, Emperor cabs, and Marshal heads for the guitars, and an Ampeg amp for the bassCool

Interesting to hear they're using Marshall. I remember a while ago reading Lebec was using Sunn amps, while de Brauw was using a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier. I tend to think going from a Triple Rectifer to a Marshall is a bit of a downgrade and could partly explain the tone not being as good, but I can't be certain.
Mesa Boogie Dual and Triple Rectifiers are normally the kind of amps you see death metal (well extreme metal in general) guys using, but they actually pull off killer post metal and even sludgy tone too if you set it up the right way. If anyone here is ever thinking of recording some post metal on their guitars, buy one of these muthaf**king amps because it's instant post metal tone in a box.
I hear a lot about Emperor cabs, but never had the chance to try one personally.
