Yes, I included trans people in my original post. I remember reading about Dee Palmer a couple years ago and totally forgot about her. |

I tend to think of Dream Theater as the masters of Prog cheese. They are so cliche it drives me nuts at times. And James LaBrie should be gay. Notice his name references cheese as well.

Interesting topic if I had to sum it up I would have to say that being Gay and a musician became popular with the New wave bands more so in the 80's, at the time prog was really big being gay and coming out with it may have been a risky thing to admit to, remember attitudes have changed lots since the early 70's on such topics .. I would suspect that their were plenty of closet gays in prog bands at the time. The resurgence of prog in the 90's that became popular once again was largely a different type of prog we know as prog metal, now I may be wrong but metal and gay isnt really talked about in the same sentance too often either

Nice to meet you... Here's one! ![]() Anyway, I apologise for correcting you, but one of the defining personalities of heavy metal came out quite a few years ago (even if before that everyone had guessed he was gay): Rob Halford of Judas Priest. True, it took him years to do so, but he eventually did it, and set an example. As to your remark on Italian prog... Well, I can agree about the 'romantic' (though not meant as sentimental - rather in the sense of the literary and artistic movement), but not about the whimsical. Listen to the likes of Jumbo, Area or Franco Battiato, and you'll see a very different side of it. |

I am thinking about opening up a thread about cheese-lovers and progsters. How many of the prog rock musicians also love cheese ? We need to find out !!! I leave it like that........

I fail to understand the relevance of this issue
![]() so what, who cares..
i'm not interested in the sexuality of muso's and it shouldn't
matter or make any difference what the person is..
We like to delve into peoples private lives.. the gossipy, tabloid culture
we seem to have is not good.
Peace.

One of the most succesful "gay statements" in 1980s popular music was Frankie Goes to Hollywood's (awful, to my ears) WELCOME TO THE PLEASURE DOME. This was virtually a sonic creation of producer Trevor Horn (formerly a member of Yes), who hired Steve Howe to play some lead guitar on it.

wowh.. I laughed at first, but actually this is an interesting discussion here. Respect for the opener of this forum. I took some time... but I can't think of anyone (not already mentioned) I know to be guy. I have some suspicion though, but telling about that could be unethical. |

Another one that came to mind is Dee Palmer formerly known as David Palmer. Jethro Tull Keybaordist during the 70's. however David is actually a transwoman not gay.. I am not sure if that counts.

"For many years Townshend refused to confirm or deny rumours that he was bisexual. In a 2002 interview with Rolling Stone magazine, however, he explained that, although he engaged in some brief same-sex experimentation in the 1960s, he is heterosexual. Townshend currently lives with his long-time partner"

Yes, although he kept it secret when The Who was at it popularity peak. In the movie Tommy, Tommy's stepdad(Oliver Reed) burns the newspaper entitled "Gay News" from Uncle Earny's (Keith Moon) hands. Thats hinting towards Townshends sexual preference. And I think he to, like Bowie is bisexual not homosexual so sorry for that mishap . Also sadly he was charged with viewing child pornography(later dropped) "But the rock star will still spend five years on a U.K register of sexual offender because the co-founder of The Who visited a website containing child porn images." I read somewhere that Bowie was something of a 'closet heterosexual' and was mostly just fascinated by bisexual culture when he 'came out'... might have been wiki though, which isnt always 100% accurate
