My father had a Ford Escort for work once. It was the worse car he's ever had.
It was too low off the ground and when you went over bumps, the suspension didn't really help much. Plus it had a spoiler on the back that slowed it down.
Perhaps you haven't read about the state the US car industry is in now.... And I don't think what you just posted was a nice thing to say to someone whose father used to work for Ford. I don't believe you'd enjoy it if someone made a similar remark concerning you or your family.
It's only a comment about a particular car, Raff... not a remark on your father's work or even the company in general.
My father had nothing to do with Ford. It was Scott's father who did, and he was responding to HIS post. Anyway, in my world (which seems to be very different from yours), you don't say things like that to someone who's just bought a car of that make. You should stop thinking that, at the age of 17, or even 27, you know everything about life and the world.

Ouch.
I only said he had a bad Ford Escort. It wasn't a comment about Ford in general. You get bad cars by any maker. He just had a bad car. My brother has a Ford Mondeo (I think) and he's not had any issues with it.
And this Ford Escort was one from the 1990s, not a current one and was already second hand when he had it.

Baldur's Gate frightens me. I intend to play it for just an hour or so and then when I check the time it's been five.
I'm sure I have spent too much time on BG II... I know the layout of the opening dungeon down to the traps on boxes... it worries me muchly. BG I... not so much, but still more than enough.
You know there are mods to skip that part, right? ;-)
I doubt I'll be replaying BG1, there's too much walking and straight combat for it to be fun more than once, but the time sucking is still worrying.
Most people prefer BG 1 because it's not as linear as as BG 2. The only annoying bit in BG 1 is the opening part in Candlekeep.
The same applies to BG 2. The opening dungeons under Athkatla are a bit tedious and grrr... that thief guy is annoying.
"I can dance on the head of a pin".
Mm... for the record, I've always heard that BG II is preferable because just about every damn thing in the game is used... there's no random wandering about (OK, there are a few random areas that appear after the Underdark where there's just about nothing)... plus, the characters/bad guys are a lot more compelling (to be fair, with the Tutu NPC mod, some of the original characters do become very strong... Kivan in particular), and the combat is obviously somewhat better arranged. On the minus side, mage battles get slightly crazy later on, especially in TOB.
Oh, BG 2 is a better game over all. It's a huge game too. I never even got to the Underdark. I was still doing side quests in Athkatla.
But a lot of people prefer BG 1 because it's not so forced.

I would not spend that many keystrokes on a Torman Maxt album

but what's the point?? You blame DT for w**king by w**king all over their album? Writing a very very long and articulate review is just as pretentious as the album he was bashing, IMO.

OK, my mistake , it's pretty early in the morning/late in the night here, I'm ill and can't sleep and I'm not reading everything quite right. Naturally, our worlds are different and I personally just can't understand taking offence at an anecdote which bears no real relation to the present situation.
At 18 I know I certainly don't know everything about life and the world; however, I don't think that should make me shy away from expressing opinions in a respectful manner (if I was sixty would it make expressing the same thoughts any better?), or provoke condescending remarks like that one... still, maybe my tone was wrong. But let's leave that, not worth arguing over.

who? That is a nightmare that I have occasionally still .. and they are the soundtrack for it. The dream always ends with Ivan walking into the Collab zone in nothing more than bathing trunks holding a copy of Torman Mass's album telling us how much he loved it. .. and how M@X was making them artist of the month.

good lord, that's worse than the nightmare I have of all the Tech-fiends raping me with copies of Blue Lambency Downward while Kayo Dot stands back while pointing and laughing.

Fair enough on those (though tbh, it took me, all in all, at most two hours to write that... mostly just a stream of words as the album was playing based on thoughts built up over previous listens, plus the admittedly large intro bit); honestly though, I write these reviews for 'big albums' for fun (and that goes as much for Close To The Edge as for Scenes From A Memory Metropolis) and to understand what I listen for in music, not to influence people's purchase choices (because I'm sure as hell I won't)... when I get to Peter Hammill's large 80s back catalogue or Jerome Langlois' Molignak, I'll be writing with an awareness of the consumer... for albums like Scenes From A Memory Metropolis on a big site like this, I don't have to deal with that.
And besides, I just review albums because I have them and I feel in the mood to (occasionally I make myself write things too early for the sake of completeness and it comes off badly) and capable of reviewing said album (i.e. heard it enough, got some points of reference to relate it to mentally... I couldn't write a decent review of the half-dozen jazz albums I have hanging around six months back... I still can't write a decent review of any of the expanding number of classical things I have... I just don't have the ears for it.). If I worried too much about whether it really matters if CTTE is .0001 higher in the ratings because of my 5 star review, I personally wouldn't be producing my best stuff. Still, I've now got quite a few obscure-ish (well, not obscure, but at least generally explored) things lined up.

I actually didn't criticise them for w**king, just for not doing it very well... besides, I always write fairly long and usually articulate reviews, which get longer as the albums do (The Wall was similarly giant, I think... the live Van Der Graaf vital will quite probably be similarly giant). It'd be more pretentious for me to write a short and inarticulate review than for me to write a huge one.
Oh, and micky, I reviewed Yeti the other day... thanks again for recommending that one.

Also, I don't see what the big deal is with Rob writing a 3000 word review on Scenes from a Memory. Granted it isn't the same rating I would have given it, but if he wants to write long reviews, then he's perfectly fine doing it.
Although I do tend to enjoy reading your reviews, Rob. So I might be a bit biased.
