After all, not one group has its' entire discography rated, at five or one.

Now I might just be talking like that because I've seen some knowledgeable people here rate every one of their idols albums at 4 or 5. And I've had a spell recently where it seemed like every album mi reviewed was one that I seemed intent on cutting its' heralded status with some here.

So maybe, maybe , this is just an overreaction based on ?

That's the point, he has selected the best albums of:
  1. Symphonic
  2. Folk
  3. Prog Metal.
  4. Jazz
  5. Eclectic
  6. etc

And rated them low because they are a direct competition to Pink Floyd

But this is obvious

He has taken the top 5 albums which are not by Pink Floyd and rated 3 with one star and one with 2 stars.
                    Please Claude, this is obvious.

Now this I like, an allegorical review so cryptic that prog is hoisted by its own petard ?

Yeah, it's obvious and therefor PA once invented the rules about ratings. Such ratings without review only count for 1 where a rating with review of a reliable guy like you counts for 10. Good thinking by PA ! Clap

These unfair nonsense ratings will always be there (unfortunately) and this is the way to deal with them.
A day without prog is a wasted day

Well, please now ... we can't have people disagreeing with what albums we see as outright fives, now can we !
So to do my part in this path to righteous views, I'm going to have to insist that everyone review & rate Klaatu's Hope AND Ange's Emile Jacotey a Five. Those who have already posted something are now able (as per M@x's recent update) to go in and make the appropriate changes.
PLease hurry, as injustice cannot be allowed to reign.

I'm surprised at his number of ratings.
Terrific...he's listened to over 5000 progressive albums...more progressive than Sean Trane... Shocked

I am becoming increasingly uncomfortable about the number of reviews of DREAM THEATER's latest album a FULL MONTH before it is officially released. Many of the reviewers admit they have obtained the music illegally.

                                  How can we allow this?
                                  • It makes it appear as though PA supports illegal downloads
                                  • The quality of the reviews are generally poor, and don't help anyone genuinely interested in buying the album
                                  • The credibility of the site is affected.

The answer is surely simple. We should let people make pre-release reviews based on legitimate promotional copies. These people tend to be Collaborators. So why not make the pre-release reviews available for collaborators only?

The answer is surely simple. We should let people make pre-release reviews based on legitimate promotional copies. These people tend to be Collaborators. So why not make the pre-release reviews available for collaborators only?

Unless there is a software mechanism to prevent non-collabs from posting a review I think it will only encourage people to post.

I'd say no reviews at all before the release date since prooving legitimate copies is difficult and time consuming. It is a dilema - record companies send out promo copies so that "professional" reviewers can publish reviews before the release date - this historically was aimed at print publications so that the magazine reviews hit the stands at the same time as the album hit the shops.
                                  What?

^ I thought it might not be too difficult to write a routine limiting access to albums until their release date, but I've not done any programming for nearly two decades, so I'm just guessing.

I'd rather have no reviews at all than the current situation. Those with promo copies can wait a little, surely?

I think there should be a limit of at least 100 posts, for someone  to rate an album (IMO)

I'm not sure if that would help. I've seen this way of acting before (just giving 1 and 5 star ratings) and I consider people like this big children who can't control themselves. A pain in the neck of our site, but what can you do ? I think we should consider to ban this way of acting by throwing them off the site. Don't forget they are ruining averages of hard working bands. We can live without this misbehaviour.

It should take me no more than three hours.

Opening pages to different albums of different bands would be the nightmare, compared to just clicking a rate from 1 to 5. Tongue

Or the guy is the worst masochist in the world, or has selected the weakest Wakeman albums, but rated White Rock and Return to the Centre of the Earth exactly the same as all the New Age albums.

I don't buy this, but the guy is innocent until proved gyuilty.

With integrity or not, drain-o can keep his ratings to his fanbase*, I'm not impressed.

Music is not a term paper, to get just grades and rates, and expressing your view over the quality of music can be perfectly done using adjectives.

                                  * Of course, I'm not suggesting any kind of wrong doing in this, I'm merely discussing.
