It's not you mate.  It's just my mood.  I'm really negative at the moment and the slightest of things can tip the balance.

So reading even a well thought out and honest (yet negative) review about one of my favourite albums of all time, may not help.

I presume you're referring to First Utterance?

I don't think even people who hate First Utterance have given it a 2; until now.

If only Bobbie had sung, that might have improved it to my ears, but then it wouldn't be what it is (for those of you who love it), would it?

Impossible. In fact, I can't listen to music while studying, simply because I memorize a lot of text than repeat it out loud. Music would be the ultimate distraction in this case.

If anything, I think Bobbie Watson's voice is just a little too warbly.

Part of what really seals the deal for me with The Hazards of Love are the lyrics and the story:

"The Rake's Song" for instance is all about a guy who gets married to have sex, but his damned wife keeps having all these babies.  Finally, the fourth one kills her in childbirth.

So he's a widower with "three little pests" so he decides to murder them all.
