I think FOABP is a fun little record.

And PT was the last gig I attended and I really enjoyed it.

It isn't bad at all.  I don't hate it.

It's just not prog.

We don't wanna know about that process. Wink

It's quite simple.

A bunch of relatively clueless n00bs vote for something that's popular and not-prog because they cannot listen to anything that actually is prog and better.

Objective elitism ftl

I'm sorry, but these are facts:

1. Porcupine Tree is prog. It isn't the most prog thing you'll find, but it's just as prog as other artists which are clearly progressive.

2. Nothing you like is objectively better than what anyone else likes. You come across like that alot, and that's where people misunderstand you.

What Alex said. I've seen enough elitism elsewhere on PA.

I think most of the Shred denizens would agree.

They're a great alt-rock band, but sometimes you feel they get crowned the king of the new prog scene sometimes, at least around here anyway.

PT have been prog in the past.  They're barely prog now.  That's what I mean.  They still have proggy moments, don't get me wrong.  They're quite accessible though.  There are proggier albums out there.

Objectively better ones too.

I'm allowed to say whether something is better, whether it's an objective viewpoint or not.

I'm sorry, but these are facts:

Lol, you rail against objective elitism and present "PT=prog" as a fact?

I didn't say you weren't allowed to say whether something is better or not; you're just wrong if you say music is objectively better than other music.

Music, by nature, is subjective. Especially when you compare two art albums to each other, there is no objective way of saying "Henry Cow is better than Porcupine Tree" or "Porcupine Tree is better than Henry Cow". They're all opinions, and you never seem to understand the fact that your opinions are simply that: opinions.

Do you think anyone would question the progressiveness of Yes?

Porcupine Tree fit the progressive rock label, and that's why they're here. Want me to prove it to you?

Oh I'm quite aware they're opinions.

I just say it deliberately.  I knew you'd pick up on the objectivism thing like a nun to a habit.  It worked.  You were drawn in.

Again, simply subjective opinions.

So you purposefully say your opinions like they're facts just to get people pissed at you or to get attention? Confused

LOL

You cannot prove it.

Like I cannot prove Yes are prog or Henry Cow are avant-prog.

Yes can often be jazz rock/fusion. Wink  Relayer is a very jazzy albums at times.

What in the world does objectivism have to do with this? We're talking about subjective vs. objective opinions. Confused

Nope.

You can chose to ignore it.  I'm not asking for you to get pissed off.
