My next project will have music I wrote almost seven years ago, never really wrote down, but still have remembered all this time, which means I must really like it. 
There will only be three songs this time around- one long one followed by two half-long ones. I'm doing the "Yes" thing.

I know people often quote the mission of the site as being the ultimate "prog resource", but are we honestly losing any credibility by not having Dire Straits listed here, despite even a single album's possible prog credentials? With the full discog rule I think such things ultimately create too many headaches. And I think prog-related has gotten beyond the scope of its intention anyway, mostly because there's disgareement on what purpose it should serve in the first place.

There were some good moments instrumentally, but you know me, I am just a pop fan trapped in a pseudo prog rock fan's mind, so bad vocals tend to ruin the whole experience for me.

I agree with this. I also think that we should concentrate fully on prog additions, and leave the prog-related and Proto-prog ones for if we have extra time. They're not NEAR as important, in my opinion.

That's understandable. And it's also why I'm trying to guide you away from hearing Ex Anima (and I'd love to have people hear it), because while there are no vocals, there are only tons of backmasked voices to represent tribal languages---which might hinder your enjoyment. Just wait for the new one.

"Telegraph Road" may be 14 minutes long, but much of that is Knopfler soloing on guitar (the last five minutes is guitar soloing).
"Free Bird" is the same way.

"Free Bird" is one of the worst songs ever UNTIL the guitar part at the end. Then it becomes acceptable... almost good. IMO, anyway.

Sounds good to me. 
Next COAM album will have 9 songs, I think. I loved doing the very abstract concept duet for the first two, but getting away from a strict concept or story for the third one has really helped to make every song able to stand on its own.

I'm hoping to finish my first "solo ep" sometime this year, there's gonna be four songs, two of which are pretty far finished as demos, one is half readyish and one I just began to work on (I've had the lyrics for that under construction for about a year). It's going to be kind of metallish weirdo rock, or at least at the moment it seems so. It'll be really interesting to see how it turns out and if I have the guts to sing in our absolutely non-soundproof apartment 
Very good cases were made in the Straits thread indeed, Rob especially, but I too won't lose any sleep over their nonexistent addition even though I think they're somewhat related to prog and a brilliant rock band overall.

Vic, I just finished hearing Exit and it was better than I remember. Still not near their best stuff though. I'm on Thief now; this is my 16th album.

Just by coincidence, my Dire Straits' Money for Nothing compilation CD came up in rotation this morning. It was the first time I have heard Telegraph Road for quite some time. I still wonder about the whole what is prog/what is not prog thing. I agree that in essence it is just a long song, but it is basically just a long rock song or blues rock song or pop song or however you want to label it. However, how is this truly any different than classic Yes, which in essence were really just long pop songs too.

Exit was my first TD album. And I loved it back then. Lots of light, but excellent pieces. Do you have Thief with the extra Comfortably Numb rip-off?

I would hardly call "The Gates of Delirium" just a long pop song.
