I can't understand how anyone would not find Peart's lyrics incredibly realistic, touching, and genius in commentary, if we're just going from the inside of our own minds.

But you have to get that everyone has had a completely different experience in life. Everyone has a different personality, and people make decisions. Each individual has his or her own grand system of values that is completely unique and does not match anyone else's (in the true self anyway, so long as it isn't hidden by any masks).

And that is why Hammill's lyrics come across as nonsense to me and why Peart's to you, and why I absolutely love Peart's lyrics and you absolutely love Hammill's. We have completely different values and beliefs in terms of what an ideal society would be like, what life is all about, and perspectives about occurrences all around us.

But aye, more stuff like that would be cool.  It has drums on it!

To be honest, I'm not sure why.

Have you tried the Force Majeure title track?

I will once again attempt to have Plague resonate with me.
This first side is just superb, though.

How is their stuff? I still haven't heard them.
I like it.  They are very much into the Lord of the Rings, which translates into they are a cheesy power metal band with some folk and prog leanings.  Definitely wouldn't appeal to your Henry Cow or Tangerine Dream sides, but might appeal to your Dream Theater/Rush sides.

I don't think they're that cheesy for being power-prog-metal, rough and edgy instead of blippibloppi and polished. Nice folky touches and symphonic leanings.
I don't think so either, but "Cheesy" seems to be the term most frequently thrown around for power metal bands, hence my use of the term.

Makes perfect sense LOL

Do you like Edguy, Scott?
If you don't know about them, you should really check out the albums Hellfire Club and Mandrake.
I'm not familiar with them.  I have a handful of Century Media compilation albums which probably have a song or 2 from them on it, but that is about it.  I'll have to keep my eye out for those albums.

I'm kind of like King By-Tor in being a pretty big fan of Helloween and also I have a couple Gamma Ray albums, Blind Guardian, and some Rhapsody, but otherwise I don't really listen to too much power metal.

I used to be (still is to some extent) a big fan of especially Gamma Ray and Edguy. Try some, but promise to listen to the whole songs if you do Wink

Erm, I've never said I disliked Peart's lyric writing.  I've not really paid enough attention to them to warrant an opinion.

I'm just not keen on the music, or Geddy Lee's vocals.

Peart's lyrics aren't bad at all.  They're better than those by Dream Theater and they make more sense than Jon Anderson's.

You mean the Open Mind Index/Rating system? Yeah, I think it's pretty neat. It is mostly accurate, except when it comes to extremely broad "genres"/labels like Progressive Rock/Music where you can have Yes, Mr. Bungle, and Henry Cow being tagged as the same label.

You completely missed the big picture I was trying to communicate with you because you nitpicked my examples. The details of the examples are irrelevant.

You used Peart as an example and claimed I disliked his lyrics.  So it's not my fault. LOL

No one in my wife's family drinks.  It's a big no-no.  Except her uncle, who is in and out of jail. Disapprove

Peart is a lot better when he's pretty straight-forward and non-politic. I like his robust style, as long as he isn't preachy.

It baffles me how you're wife accepts your supposedly daily lean towards alcohol.

I don't think she does accept it, Rico.

I wouldn't if I was his wife.

As long as it isn't a lot/day and coupled to an active lifestyle, it's actually just good for you.
Alcohol, that is.
