How is their stuff? I still haven't heard them.
I like it.  They are very much into the Lord of the Rings, which translates into they are a cheesy power metal band with some folk and prog leanings.  Definitely wouldn't appeal to your Henry Cow or Tangerine Dream sides, but might appeal to your Dream Theater/Rush sides.

I don't think they're that cheesy for being power-prog-metal, rough and edgy instead of blippibloppi and polished. Nice folky touches and symphonic leanings.
I don't think so either, but "Cheesy" seems to be the term most frequently thrown around for power metal bands, hence my use of the term.

Hmmm... alright. I'll add them somewhere on the list, probably. LOL

You're more partial to them than I am then. Hammill's voice and lyrics come off to me as the opposite of what I look for in music, and the music is quite boring. I'd give all their albums 1 or 2 stars by PA's guidelines. Godbluff is the best one though; that may get 3 if I'm feeling generous.

They're pretty much the biggest disappointment with any band, prog or otherwise, that I've ever fully tried to get into.

The music boring?

WTF?

Hammill's lyrics crap?

WTF?

Oh please let's not get into this again.  He just doesn't like the band, let's leave it at that.

Mine's more epic win.

HC boxset next to Art Bears boxset. Big smile

Makes perfect sense LOL

Do you like Edguy, Scott?
If you don't know about them, you should really check out the albums Hellfire Club and Mandrake.

Big smileClap

I don't see how Alex hates them so much.  Seriously.  It's completely beyond me. Confused

Personal taste?

There's no objectivism in music when it comes to someone preferring Rush or VDGG or ELP. There are explanations underlying an individual's views and character, but there's no way that everyone can like the same exact band even if they look for similar attributes (prog) in music.

I really need more Art Bears. I only have Winter Songs.

It was pretty good. Not near as good as HC though.

Hammill's lyrics being crap isn't personal taste.  Sorry.

I can understand you don't like his vocals and I can also understand not liking the music.

Only on 2002/2004 re-releases.

The original album only has 3 tracks: Sunrise in the Third System, Fly and Collision of Comas Sola, and the title track. Those are the ones I have.

I'm not familiar with them.  I have a handful of Century Media compilation albums which probably have a song or 2 from them on it, but that is about it.  I'll have to keep my eye out for those albums.

I'm kind of like King By-Tor in being a pretty big fan of Helloween and also I have a couple Gamma Ray albums, Blind Guardian, and some Rhapsody, but otherwise I don't really listen to too much power metal.

If it was a re-release then why did the whole album sound all crackly, like a vinyl? Confused

But aye, more stuff like that would be cool.  It has drums on it!

I took that last.fm "quiz" and got a 68.  I have very limited musical preferences!  Oh well.

The Blind Guardian album covers are the most hilariously awful ever made.
