I was just listening to "Alone Again In The Lap Of Luxury" (by Marillion) after a long stint of listening to "The Last Straw". When I played the former, I was shocked at the massive similarity in "Alone Again...".

I even sung (yes...) the lyrics to "The Final Straw" over the top of the latter, and they fitted nearly perfectly (for part, not all of the song).

Am I missing something... Was this on purpose? (probably a stupid question)
and...

Has anybody else noticed this?

Yeah, some similarities. I'll have to give CaS a listen again here shortly. Been a while.

I think only the intros are similar (as in that theme, which is played at different parts of the songs).

I never noticed it before but I do now! Damn you!

"Hotel Hobbies padding dawn's hollow corridors....."

It can be done alright!

Clutching At Straws is awesome - definitely the most underrated Fish era Marillion album.

I'd never really noticed before, but there are some similarities. Brilliant listening!Clap

Hardly surprising, I suppose. The music is, in the main, written by Rothery, Trewavas, Mosley, and Kelly, whilst Fish & H do the lyrics.

Haha thanks for the claps :P

I only just got both albums, so I've been listening like mad.

I'd actually say I thought Fugazi was the most underrated Fish era album, but Clutching is also very underappreciated. Funny thing is, they're both awesome albums :P
