I'll agree that those two years were pretty average for Zappa's standards.

But in 1986 there was Jazz from Hell which more than made up for it. Big smile

You mean Greenslade's debut album? I've got that and "Bedside Manners Are Extra" - both very accomplished albums, though I must admit they leave me somewhat cold. Micky is quite into Ange, while I find the vocals a tad offputting.

Yep, the debut. I really admire a couple of the musicians on it (the criminally underestimated Tony Reeves and Andy McCulloch), and I have to admit, so far, I really like it, especially the vocals a couple of reviewers are complaining about.

I can understand where you're coming from on both of them, though I think the vocals are perhaps what make Ange (well, from what I've heard) so unique... I've never heard a band that uses them quite like that.
How would you compare that Ange album to Au-delà du délire? That's the only thing I've heard from them and I'm very fond of it. As I am about Andy McCulloch's drumming on Lizard, perhaps I should get to know Greenslade as well?

Good to see Raff is alive, haven't seen you two here in a while Smile

Hope so!

I expected Francesco Zappa to be awful, but I didn't expect to be awful out of utterly stupid ideas. Dead

But it's not just that album, every album is pretty much horrible.

Yes. I was simply referring to the fact that Zappa being bad is still average for most artists out there. Wink

No.

Having been a Zappa hater for all this time, I do believe Zappa being bad means that it's destined to the trash bin.

Don't know that one, I'm afraid, only heard a live album (ange... a dieu?) and le cimetiere. I did think le cimetiere was very good. McCulloch's on great form, it must be said, though he's not always being Fripped (new coinage describing playing in King Crimson) out of shape on this one. Personally, though Greenslade was very good, and Tony Reeves (played bass for the first couple of Colosseum albums... very much underrated) is another real standout player.

Don't think you could go wrong with either of those albums, tbh, but they're my introductions to both the bands anyway, so I'm maybe not the best source LOL

Agreed. Though I actually like Francesco Zappa, for what it's worth.

You've got to be kidding me! Plastic classical thin compositions? Confused

Even you've done better use of the cello in Ex Anima. Tongue

Hey, Linus! It's been a while since I've seen you around here. Not a whole lot... only 1 more exam this week and then I'm off for summer, which will be great because I'm SO ready for it. You?

Yup, I've had a lot going on. Well, I have my last exam next week and after that it's field courses and summer break (read: summer work), but that exam keeps me preoccupied right now.

That's false. He never changes his socks. He hasn't for at least 2 year now. I hear they've molded to his feet is why.

Good luck with that. How many classes do you have over the summer?
